I have a junk car that I need to get rid of. It's parked in front of my apartment. The plates that were registered to it have been switched over to my new car. I cannot find the title. Since I have removed the plates from it, I've received an official notice that it's illegally parked and will be towed and impounded unless fixed. However, I can't get rid of the car without the title. What in the world can I do? Thank you.

I'm a resident of NYS but currently reside in PA for school. My drivers license and insurance are NY so I couldn't register it here.

Would the PA dmv have the title as well?

you can contact dmv for a dup title.
contact your complex and let them know you will have it towed or donated to charity as soon as you aquire the dup title.
or get a friend to find someone who has a tow truck to haul it away to their junk yard.

I don't where you live, so I don't know if they fine you for the impound or not. Where I live, we don't have to pay the impound unless we go pick up the car. If we don't pick it up in 90 days, it becomes the tow companies property and they auction it off. If it's junk and you aren't expecting to get any money from it, let the impound guys have it.

Buy an old junk car the same as yours and put the good parts on it and register with the new junk car license and titles plates etc. Otherwise you can break the car down and sell it for parts.

In CA, just let it set there. They impound it. It will set there for a bit, then the tow company will take ownership and auction it off or sell it for scrap.

If you want to sell it, you need to go to DMV and register it with a PNO (Promise of Non-Operation). You won't need smog and can just get a title and registration so you can sell it or whatever.
