Certain registered charities are offered tax-free status. Merely being a non-profit does not confer tax-free status.

You should not pay sales taxes if you have a 501-C tax designation for your non-profit. You should be able to supply the vendor with your tax identification number and that should suffice.

If you are a 501(c)3, tax exempt organization, then you don't pay sales tax. Not all nonprofits are tax exempt though.
