A god is
a superhuman being or spirit worshiped as having power over nature or human fortunes; ∎ an image, idol, animal, or other object worshiped as divine or symbolizing a god

I have now started worshipping fire. You can't deny fire is real. It cleary has power over nature and human fortune. So my god is real. No where in the definition of a god does it have to be sentient. A god does not have to create the universe. Although combustion on some level probably did have a part in it's creation and life could not exist without it. Atheists may no longer say there is no god. Take that losers.
On a side note this also disproves the christian god. Their god says he is the only god and since I have a proven different god I win there too.

(There may be some flaws in this logic. Ignore them please.)

"(There may be some flaws in this logic. Ignore them please.)"

That line finds its way into a lot of my questions too.

I don't like your definition of God. Regardless, fire doesn't fit that definition. Under what circumstances is fire "superhuman" or a "spirit"? If it is neither of those, it cannot fit your definition.

Anyway, the atheist belief that God does not exist uses the standard definition of an anthropomorphized God, not yours.

Additionally, part of the definition of God is the ability to temporarily suspend natural laws for the purpose of miracles. Fire doesn't do that.

Seriously though... did I just get taken in by a joke? I'm so confused and I'm going home.

You know, you just made a believer out of me!

The others may not be able to see that fire IS INDEED superhuman, as it can do things that no human can do and is able to destroy humans and all of their belongings, as well as cook them to make them more tasty for things that eat humans. They really can't say that fire ISN'T a spirit, for it has neither form nor shape.

But, guess what? My god is WATER! And my god can put your god out! Not only that, but it covers 3/4 of the earth's surface, sustains life for everything on it, and creates the weather. Absence from it for long periods of time REALLY IS life-threatening. Can there be any greater god than the all-mighty WATER?

Well, by using your definition and ignoring the flaws, I can create a couple of other gods too. Such as wind, water (tides), lightning (electricity), gravity, magnetism, light and so on.

In fact, I claim many of them to be more powerful than your fire and what is more, I can even create or control some of them. Sometimes...on a small scale.

However, I still sense there is something wrong......

I suppose you can apply the word God to just about anything. Many pantheists and animists have. Your Fire God doesn't stand a chance against my Water God. All Hail the Mighty Water God and down with the Fire God heretics. =)

I do believe wd20x2 just gave the perfect argument on why your little idol can't be "a superhuman being having power over nature."

Couldn't even protect itself from a little "nature call" (sorry...pun fully intended)

sorry...can't say "brilliant argument", not when the author admits there are flaws. Besides... flaws are like fracture lines...if they get big enough..it all falls apart.

I prefer water. You and your fireist friends only want to burn things, but consider the following facts about water:

It's everywhere - oceans, rivers, taps, toilets, even the very air around us, and our bodies themselves are made up of mostly water.

All living things require it to live. We can last at most a few days without it.

Scientists believe that life started in the water.

Fossil evidence shows that the first vertebrates were found in water.

Face it, water is the real god. Water even puts out your deity.

Well, I think you need to see The Ten Commandments again. The first commandment says "I am the Lord thy God... you shalt have no other gods before me." God doesn't deny the existance of other gods, he just tells you right off not to worship them.

So, if you truly choose fire as your god, I think you might be awarded the chance to dwell in its presence for eternity.

That isn't my choice, but hey, free will rocks.

some worship wood , some worship stone , the air , a volcano , etc . in the end it's just wood and stone , wind and fire . you're argument is at best misinformed . you are putting the created , before the creator . your logic is childish and you are at best trying to justify why you don't believe in god , but believe me , your statements have proved nothing . justification is a fools wisdom . you need to look at this a little deeper .

Look at your definition of god.

Fire is not a being or a spirit and if you're worshipping it as a symbol, there must be a god for it to be a symbol of.

You lose. Try harder.

My God is called "ALL THAT IS" This is not just a name for my God, it is also the literal description of my God. Think about what that means. It means that there is nothing that is not part of God, and there is nothing that is also not a part of God....in the exact same way as a drop of water is part of the ocean. This includes each and every one of us! I repeat EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US! That means that God is the whole, and we are all parts of that whole. That means that there is no old man with a long white beard somewhere in the sky judging us, and/or condemning us to eternal damnation. Separation is an illusion. There is no difference or separation between what we are and what God is! It also means that we are all one! With each other, as well as with God. *sm*
