Lead acid batteries need at least 10% over battery voltage to charge completely, in other words, a 12 volt battery needs at least 13.2 volts to attain full charge. When charging, try to not exceed 10% of the amperage rating. In your case that's .5 amp. Personally I prefer a long slow charge of 5% or less since less water is lost during the process.

Each Cell in a Lead Acid battery has a voltage of 2.2 volts. In a 12 volt battery there are 6 cells . Hence the full charge voltage will be 2.2X6 = 13.2 volts. So when you set up the charging voltage make sure its above 13.2 but not more than 14.4 volts. Current can be set at 500 milliamps or lower. Dont exceed more than 20% of the battery rating while charging as slow charge gets in deep and not surface potential of the cell.
