I've been wearing a ring I never liked, which was my mother in laws. Let's just leave it at that.

I'm getting a new ring. Would it be inappropiate to get a single ring with a diamond rather than a bridal set? To just have a solitaire like an engagement ring, without a wedding band?

I'd still get a wedding band. Even if it's just plain with no diamonds. 1 ring makes you look engaged, not married.

Rather than have it resemble an engagement ring, you might want to have the band made a little wider with some other stones. However, my girlfriend did this years ago and it still looks more like a dinner ring to me than a wedding ring. Why don't you simply have a smaller, thin band along with the solitaire?

I think I've seen wedding bands with a solitaire on them...maybe they were wider bands. I had a wide band with some little diamonds inside it and I liked it. A diamond sticking out on top would have turned sideways on my finger and I'd always be having to flip it back to the top. How does your husband feel about it? Wouldn't you want him to wear a band?

If you are married a wedding band is a must or people will think you are only engaged.

I've seen women wear just one band to serve as both. I think whatever you want is fine, and I don't think it is inappropriate.
