and he is the first pet ive ever had. but he is suffering. hes skin and bones now. about two months ago, he stopped going in the littler box, and now he cries when he has to go to the bathroom, and hell go wherever he feels like it. and its always diareah. the vet gave us some powder to mix with his food, but he wont eat it. and i feel horrible. i want him to be around because i dont want to accept reality. I am very scared to take her to the vet cuz deep down I'm pretty sure he'll probably agree. i would rather have him just pass away in our house on his own. if i had something injected in him to kill him i would feel horrible. i think he stays around because he knows well be very upset without him. and i dont think id ever be able to get another cat, in fear of him thinking i was replacing him.

As much as it may hurt you NEED to take him to the vet. It is possible something can be done to save him. However, you won't know unless you take him to the vet. If there is no hope, it is better to get him euthanized by a veterinarian than let him suffer and die. With proper euthanasia he will feel no pain. Some veterinarians will perform euthanasia in your house.

Getting another cat does not mean you are replacing your old one. It means you are giving a much needed home to a kitty that really needs a home.

We had to put my boy cat to sleep this past winter. It is hard but it was better then watching him suffer. You don't know when He will pass and how. With the shot it is painless. I am sure the vet would rather not do it either. In time you will be able to give your love to another cat. There are so many pets that need your love. They are a part of our family. We have 2 other cats. When we move we will get another cat. A coworker had to put her cat to sleep and said she will never get another cat. But guess what she has a boy cat now. Hope this helps some

I don't know if any of this will bring comfort or not, but here goes....and, in the end, only you can make the choice of what to do.

I hate seeing animals be put down. But there comes a time for each of us - humans and pets alike - that we must draw the line and let go. And, just as we go through different stages of mourning when a person close to us dies, it's the same thing with our pets. It's perfectly normal to have all of these feelings.

I'm sure that you've given him lots of love and care through the years. Maybe he's just waiting for you to realize that love doesn't end when he's gone, and you'll always have memories of those days and years that you've spent with him.

Sadly, if it was my cat, I would let him go. He would cross over "Rainbow Bridge" and be in a place where he wasn't in pain anymore.

I've assisted with euthanasias. It's not something any of us in the profession likes; we are trained to help animals return to health. It saddens even the oldest, "toughest" veterinarians and technicians that you can find. I've come really close to crying more times than I want to admit and not a single one of those pets were even mine.
I know that I'll be a total mess when the time comes for me to let go of my own cat.

You can choose to be present or not for the euthanasia.
Your cat falls asleep, breathing stops, and the heart stops. You can choose to have your pet to have a common burial, cremated, or take home the body.

I know it probably sounds crazy, but we don't choose cats .... they choose us. Somewhere out there is a kitty waiting to put his or her paw on you and steal your heart. Maybe not this month or even this year. But your kitty wouldn't want you to be sad all of the time. I'd bet any paws that he'd want you to have another furry pal to keep you company ... just remember to tell that new furry pal about the other kitty you had!

My Cedrick (18 years best companion) had been sick for a couple weeks. I knew it was not the time yet and I was working on understanding the facts and reality. One day I woke up he was laying by me, difficulty breathing and looking at me with so much love. I had this weird feeling that he might have been trying to tell me something. I called the vet to see if she could come over and say goodbye, but she could only later that day. After a few hours, he went hiding and could barely take breath. My pretty companion was suffering. We decided to bring him to the vet. He was just full of wanting to live, he was suffering. I remember saying goodbye. It hurts so much. Someone on this site told me that pets don't have sense of the future, so when they are hurting they don't know if they will ever feel better. Your loved one will let you know when he is ready

It's hard but I think you better let your cat go, instead of seeing him suffering everyday. The injection is painless, just like falling asleep, you can make an appointment at the vet (it can also be done at home but is more expensive) and go there with your friend. If you feel comfortable you can even hold him while the doctor passes the injection. I'm sure it'll be hard, you have my sympathy.

He's suffering it would be best to put him out of his misery and I would say that after a month or two if you would still want a pet then I would say get one I mean I lost already 2 cats they were killed and it made me feel better that I got another one to make me feel better someone (or something) to be comforted by and make me laugh I mean I would NEVER forget the old cat but the new one comforts me. Also I think it would be comforting to you.

I have recently had to put my baby boy kitty to sleep. He was old, fat and had a really bad liver and kidney problem, he couldn't go pee. He was in so much pain, crying all day long. I couldn't bare to see him in so much pain that taking him to the vet was the only option left. Putting him to sleep via a shot from the vet, was very hard. Knowing I did it. But in the end, he IS' NT CRYING IN PAIN ANYMORE. I couldn't be in the room or even see him after it was over, memories of him alive is what I'm left with. That's good. If your kitty is in pain, wouldn't you want to stop it? If there's nothing left you can do, then you should do it. Hope things go well for you and your kitty.

He was your first pet and you love him. He's been a good pet to you, now you have to be a good owner to him. Since the cat is suffering that means having him put to sleep. Please don't let him suffer, this is the ultimate cruelty to an animal you love. I know it's hard, I've had to do it many times but when it's over you will feel better about yourself because you did the right thing.

have you tried force-feeding the mix of food and powder? it may sound cruel, but it's probably his last hope. please don't just give up if he won't eat his food - it probably smells funny to him from the powder, but he needs that to get well.

honestly though, if there's no hope with the medicine, don't let him die on his own. it will be a very long, painful death and there's no reason to draw that out if there's really no hope of recovery. look at it this way - if you let your cat pass away at home, you may not be around when he does, but if you bring him to a vet and have him put to sleep, you can be with him in his final moments.

I'm so very sorry. This is one of the hardest things to decide.
I don't know your baby's age, but frankly, if money is not a problem, I think I would try another vet. It's obvious that your last vet didn't have the answer. Sounds as if it might be a digestive problem. Please think about a 2nd opinion
