Can this be done at a local police station?

Generally it cannot be done at a police station, unless you are suspected in a crime and the ask you to submit to one.

There are private firms that administer the tests. You will want to find a certified forensic and clinical polygraph examiner. The tests range in price, but one from a renowned expert would run you in the neighborhood of $300-$500.

I believe you would need a firm from a private sector to have a polygraph done. Most experts agree, however, that to make results inconclusive; all you have to do is keep the sphincter muscle contracted during the test (not as easy as it sounds!) A good alternative is a voice-stress analyzer, they're only about two hundred and fifty bucks, accurate... and you get to keep it.

There are private detective agencies that do this as a "fidelity test" for spouses suspected of cheating, but I managed to bluff my way through one in an experiment (and passed). Aldrich Ames and Hanssen both passed on a regular basis.

If this is related to your other question, it may not work (If you don't feel guilt at your actions, or don't believe you've done wrong you may not get the elevated repiration/perspiration response). Besides, if you place someone under this amount of duress respiration/perspiration is going to increase.

I'd say look up "polygraph testing" in your local yellowpages. But I will give you warning: I know from personal experience that they are VERY UNRELIABLE... I fooled one myself many years ago, and it was not dificult at all. I lied steadily, through my teeth, through two polygraph sessions, and passed with flying colors. Do not trust the results. Hope you find the truth though. Good luck!

Even supposing that you could ''buy'' one, what the 'ell
would you do with the result? It would need to be certified or some such, otherwise not worth the paper it's scribbled on.
