The most important thing is to have someone to talk to. Friends, family, teachers... whoever you can be open and honest with. If you're having suicidal thoughts, see your doctor right away.

First let me tell you I'm sorry for this that could just turn out to be what some call a rash of bad luck. Except for your mom leaving_hopefully she'll change her mind or simply be back soon_, and your dad losing his job, let me tell you that none of the rest should get you down. And of course with everything coming together like this, anyone has to feel depressed at one point or another.
Regarding the computer, even though it is old, you are right in saying it is probably your most prized material possesion. Whatever you do, keep it. Regarding your family's $28k a year income, that is probably very low from your family's point of view, but the truth is quite a lot of people make much less than this!!! And you could find out exact figures by making very quick searches in the internet.
You will probably find out, a cheaper, older, and even ugly, car, will do more for you than this one.
Regarding what you see as unpopular at school, well then you just might not have as many friends as the supposed most popular ones. But you are you, and that should be enough. You are important to yourself and to the ones that truly know you and feel for you.
Regarding clothing, well, fashion comes and goes. And a lot of parents cannot keep up with all the changing styles. So this is where you come in: For the best ideas try searching through whatever magazines you have around, whether old or new, and put some of these ideas into practice by mixing and matching your clothing and accessories. You might develop a flair for fashion that you didn't know you could. And who knows if you even start a trend at your own school or anywhere else.

I am so sorry for you situation. Have been there as a child and as an adult. Depression is not something you can just "get over" or "deal with". Let your dad worry about the finances, you need to deal with the loss of your mother. Try not to worry about being popular, only about 10% of kids are ever considered to be popular. I know that it is hard to be teased. I agree with the others who said to speak with your school counselor. Give that a try. There are also support groups, Christian-based and others, if you are not comfortable with the religious organizations. You also might be surprised how many kids your age have a lot of the same problems. Please get help if you are feeling depressed, seek out your counselor, call 1-800 numbers, and tell your father how you are feeling. He may just be the best help you can have, I know any good parent would not want their child to feel this way and them not know about it. Best of luck in your situation.

In the early stages or in milder cases of depression a sufferer may simply be apathetic or lack mental or physical energy. They may take a negative view on their life or circumstances or become especially morbid. All of which is within the natural range of human behaviour and, often, it takes a good friend or relative to know whether such a change has occurred in an individual. If you didn’t know a person was once a bag of beans and optimism you may not notice that they are now slow and withdrawn. Depression may begin almost trivially, due to tiredness or stress, but as it recurs over time it begins to have an effect upon the mental and physical resources of the sufferer and become, itself, the cause of greater issues. Finding out about depression early on can save many difficulties as time passes.

Look in your phone book, there are 800 numbers and you can also go to your counselor once school starts and they may be able to help you with local contacts in your area.
Hang in there, it may be tough but help is available. Locate some numbers you can call just to talk about these issues and maybe someone can help get you through it. Sometimes just a friendly voice who is non judgemental can do wonders. There is also counseling available that is on a sliding fee scale and maybe you can get it for free. Call the YWCA also, they may have some information or numbers you could also try. You took the first big step in asking for help here, good for you!!!! Don't give up, keep trying and searching until you find an agency or organization that can help you!

wow. sounds like your going through a rough time right now. How old are you? Are you old enough to get a part time job? Not just for the money, but so you could meet new people and do something good for yourself? If not, how about volunteering somewhere? The local SPCA if you like animals, at the local art gallery if you love art?
Why not talk to the guidance counsellor or teacher or principal at your school. Perhaps they could give you some direction as to where you could get some help.
Good luck.

Dear Jenna,
Been there, done that. tran4mind com One stop shop for all your needs, free and ready to go. You are going to ride the waves others would wipe out on. It's going to feel so good to know you can handle all that, your confidence will soar. Of course we're all here for you and I've gotten counseling for as little as $20 a month or maybe even free. Go into a community clinic and see what they can do. luv

Try this one out: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/listsf.asp?webtag=iv-rlfamilymatt&nav=start
and also: www.everywherechat.com This community has a room Anxiety and Panic Support.
When you open up a website you will see a list of the rooms. Not all of them fit the window. You click on LOBBY ... and when in LOBBY you will see a tab ROOMS. Find this room in alpha order.
Good luck to you.
