Notice: Rant time

Let me start off by saying that I'm not an Atheist. I happen to believe that there is or was a greater force which created life as we know it but he is not active in our lives today; I don't think he looked like Kenny G either.

I live in Houston, Texas and hang out with plenty of Christians throughout my week. I'm amazed at how many of them have sex, drink and judge other people just in a given week. Then, they goto church on Sunday's and repent so they can feel like they have some sort of moral authority over their peers who may not believe in the same things they do. Then there are others who don't even goto church. Now I understand that going to church isn't a requirement, or is it? I'm not really sure. Anyway, if the person was so passionate about God and living a moral life, they would be in church on Sunday.

If it appears that I am lumping all Christians into this category, I apologize. It is not my intent.

I don't understand why someone cant put all there faith in "GOD" or whoever it may be, but they don't want to take the time to worship on Sundays. If its that big of a deal to them, why cant they show it........Probably just because they are lazy hypocrites....

I totally understand what you are saying. Do not be discourage about attending church and developing a relationship with Jesus Christ because of what you may see other christians do. People tend to forget that you must give an account on judgement day on yourself and noboby else. So I encourage you to get with christians who really have a heart for Jesus. What does that mean? Not only do they live right and love Jesus on sunday morning, but their actions, deeds, and choices (especially when not in church) are based on God's word. Get with new people, if you don't you will always feel like you feel. There are christians who really love Jesus and there actions follow. By the way it is a command to attend church (Hebrews 10:25). I am christian and I grew up in church seeing all sort of things. But I did not let that stop me from getting to know Christ and I encourage you to do the same, in spite of what others are doing around you. (2 Timothy 2:22) (Colossians 3) ( St. John 3:16)

Well, because "sunday-only christians" are not Biblical Christians, and you can not expect someone not following the Bible to live as though they were.

That would be like being surprised when you see a "sinner" committing a sin.

By the way, how's the weather these days? I grew up in Houston, and it would get to 100% humidity (100 degrees in the shade - no kidding!) and still no rain. Are you surviving the heat?

By the way, being a Christian is not about going to church, even though by going to church it strengthens your faith as you hear someone teaching from the Word of God. But a Christian won't "smoke or drink or chew, or go with the crowd that do" - lol :-D Also, a Biblically-based Christian won't be going around condemning others. After all, Jesus said "He who is without sin, cast the first stone", and since he was the only one qualified to cast a stone, but chose not to ("I do not condemn you. Go and sin no more."), then how can his followers do any different?

God wants us to be in church, to worship Him. But I personally do not believe it's a requirement. I suppose we as Christians should go, so we can fellowship with one another, but to each his own.

I'm not defending those Christians who look down their noses at other people. But I will say that we're all human, and we all sin - even Christians. I know that I have behaviors that some of the "high and mighty" Christians would view as sinful. I do drink, albeit in moderation. I don't believe this is a sin. I have been known to gamble a bit, but I don't do it in excess and I'd never bet the farm. And I've had sex with more than one person - shhhh! Don't tell anyone! ;)

Doing those things doesn't make me less of a Christian, it just makes me human.

The Christians who would judge me aren't the kind I want to associate with, and I'm sorry that those are the ones you're hanging out with. They give all of us a bad name.

You are right when it comes to SOME Christians. Frankly, I get flack because I don't go to church on Wednesday and only go some Sunday evenings. I'm there every Sunday morning and I learn and try to put in to practice all week long the lessons learned.

Saying that, I don't always succeed in this. Most of the time, in fact, I sin and put my life in front of God.

While I don't drink and smoke and have sex with random people, I'm no better than the Christian who does. Especially when I look down my nose at anyone. I've been known to do it too... My only excuse is that I just get to comfortable in my walk with Christ. I'm sorry, for me anyway... I'm flawed.

Thanks for the rant. I see the same thing all the time... Sunday Morning Christians, and worse yet, Christmas & Easter Christians, that love to lord their moral superiority over others, even as they pursue their selfish and often destructive lifestyles. Funny thing is, I see nothing in the Bible where it even requires church attendance, or says that such attendance earns you any Salvation Units. Maybe I need to get one of those new-and-improved Bibles... my King James Version says we need to actually do good deeds, not sit in a church talking about doing good deeds and blaming others for everthing wrong in the world.

And yes, unlike the vast majority of Sunday Morning Christians, I've actually read their precious Bible cover-to-cover... something it's difficult to do when you only crack it open once a week, to cherry-picked verses, and the rest of the week you're too busy beating people over the head with it... or hiding it in the nightstand so it's out of view when their mistress shows up.

Personally I do not think as a Christian church is a necessity, I can study and read and worship at home. I do attend regular services but I enjoy the fellowship with others. In my opinion you can not call yourself a christian unless you lead a "christian life" regardless of how many times you go to church in a week.

I agree with you on that. I know alot of people like that too. I believe in God and the basics of Christianity. I pray. But I do not attend church for this very reason. There are alot of hipocritical people in this world.

Not choosing to worship in the same manner as you do is not a failure to worship

And since anyone who claims to be a Christian believes that judgment of faith is reserved by God, your judgment of these people is UNchristianlike.

By the way, nowhere in the bible is church attendance mandatory, and Jesus drank wine and even made more for his friends using divine powers. So be careful who you judge!

Hey come on now. We're not judging. You take it that your are being judge. Could it be you are being convicted for what you are told and you can't face the truth so you call it judging? If you are being told about God and His Word, you are being judge by God Himself if you don't like what you hear. Can't always pat above the waist you know. Sometime a pat below the belt might get one to listen.
