There has been much blood shed around the world. There are no signs of abatement and the hostilities appear to be on the rise between the Christian right (specially amongst Americans). The US policy towards the Islamic world and equally the actions of some muslim factions have made a worse situation into mission critical. What can people around the world do to (or suggest to their leaders) to make this world a more liveable place? How can people of different faiths, political ideologies, cultures, etc. get along with each other? How can we understand each other better? What will make us sit on the same table with respect for others and recognistion of each others rights?

Please recommend concrete steps. I know there are a lot of immature people out on the web. There is no way to avoid their comments. So, please, disregard them. This is an appeal to the thinking person who really wants to acheive world peace and common grounds for understanding between various nations and faiths.

Maybe we should actually show that there is a difference between what the U.S. does and what Christianity stands for. I think most Muslims in the foreign countries believe that the U.S. represents Christianity when it does not. The fight is between ideals and nation states, not between religions. Perhaps what would help to solve this misunderstanding is to actually promote more exposure to different cultures. First, many Americans have a stereo-typical view of Muslims. On the other hand, many foreign Muslims have a stereo-typical view of Americans. I think much of this fades when we begin to know people instead of a cultural construct.

Second, I recommend letting history move on. I know things are difficult right now with everything in Iraq, but I do believe that this too shall pass in its time. If Iraq can actually rebuild itself and become a self-sustaining country once again, I do believe that we will at least have a couple of fans in the Middle East.

The would would be dramatically different if the US spent as much on peace and diplomacy as it spends on war.

First -- People need to understand gas in cars and plastic water bottles come from oil that funds terrorists.

Second -- US leaders need to not call other nations axis of evil -- rather eliminates the option for discussions, doesn't it?

Third -- There is no "getting" along with the radical Islamic world -- Muslims must condemn with one voice the radical Muslims -- if they don't, the reason must be they agree.

Fourth -- The world needs to understand poverty in Arab nations feeds radical Islam like grain feeds rats.

The Bush administration fought the Iraq war for four years, and never involved or in most cases, communicated with neighboring countries.

I'm not sure which is more dangerous -- radical Islam, or the Bush administration's world view.

Your question isn't very clear, I'm afraid. Can you post more details? If you're asking about Christian-Muslim links 'from the time of Abraham'... there were none, as Abraham's life pre-dates the beginning of either Christianity or Islam. But both Christianity and Islam recognise Abraham as a prophet.

The most concrete steps would be for the muslim leaders to declare tolerance for each other, speak out against and seek out any terrorist factions or those that habor them.

This is not about Christianity or Islam, it's about terrorism and a continued agression in the middle east.

I believe this question belongs to Geo-Politics section but, nonetheless, I strongly suggest:

1. Stop the War in Iraq! And bring our soldiers back home, out of harm's way. We have NO BUSINESS proselytizing our U.S. ideologies on any other country. Period!

2. The House of Congress/Senate should commence IMPEACHMENT proceedings for the President AND the Vice President IMMEDIATELY --they cannot be allowed to be above the law, or of checks-and-balances, and get away with scoffing at the faces of our lawmakers and the U.S. Constitution.

That about sums up my two-cents worth on the topic.

Peace be with you!

human decency. Check out the movie "Conscientious Objector" and observe first hand what it means to be mistreated by your own (as a private) and by 'enemy forces' by virtue of the war he was enlisted in. despite that, Desmond Doss, the soldier that this movie features, who by the way was the first to receive the Medal of Honor, gives all the examples in the world of words and deeds that soothe the pain of differences highlighted by varying backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures. I had the high honor of shaking his hand before he died, and he was so gentle and humble, i was charmed. get the movie, and read up on this astounding man, you'll definitely learn alot about how to be effective in this area. good luck.

The muslims could be more vocal and active against terroist groups. That would shed a very positive light on Islam and prove that it's just extremists.

I'd like to see an international dialog about the problems of fundamentalist religion. I don't think religion as a whole, Muslim or Christianity are the problems. The problem comes from blind fundamentalism, refusing to believe it can be any other way. Fundamentalist religion is scary and harmful regardless of what religion it is. I'd like to see people recognize that.
