So this last question asked people to state their IQ:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070815122734AAX5Exq

50% of the people who gave a numberical answer on the first page answered + 130. Several in the 165-170 range! Yikes!

This must mean the entire +130 IQ population visits R&S!

If you have an IQ of 165/170, why are you wasting away on R&S? Shouldn't you be curing HIV or cancer? How bout you get cracking on a Mid East peace agreement or a new Iraq policy?

Damn!

For the record, here is the famous Bell Curve of IQ distribution.

130 is not common. Only 2% of the population scores above 130.

Deke: I've been tested three times, and if pressed, I always give the highest score (I was 10, lol). "Denial - it's not just for creationists anymore!"

To clarify a typo:

2% of pop = +130
0.1% of pop = +145

(That's part of the reason I didn't post my IQ, lol.)

Zapp points out that Einstein had an IQ of 156. Think on that for a moment.

I went back and read through some of the answers to the question you are talking about. Please - most people have never had their IQ tested by a group such as Mensa to determine what it actually is. I can tell you that Mensa's test and the online tests are two different stories.

Both my father's and my IQ were tested by Mensa and both of us are over 160. Seems to run in the family.

That being said - there are many different kinds of intelligence. Someone that claims to have an IQ over 170 tends not to have a lot of common sense. Or at least that has been my experience. A lot of people I met with very high IQ's cannot adapt socially or handle change. They tend to be almost erratic and hermit like unable to address normal problems.

The other thing is - just because you have a high IQ doesn't mean you can do anything such as cure HIV/AIDS or cancer. It simply means you can take a test. Which is why the IQ testing process has been under attack over the past several years as being unrealistic and not measuring all types of intelligence.

Take it or leave it but just keep in mind that again, because you can score a number on a test doesn't mean you can accomplish anything in life.

(I didn't answer with a number, for the record.) At least I have the excuse that I type away here while doing work at the same time.

While I'm sure people who take IQ tests are more likely to be above average than those who don't (since these days they're used to find gifted kids in elementary school), and the internet will trend higher than elsewhere, I think the impulse to lie is going to overrule everything else on there. After all, why report 165 and look dumb when you can claim to be 180! Or, why post 130 when the mean score is higher than that?

(Do people with high IQs tend to post more slowly? Notice that if you keep a running tally of the mean score up to response #n on that thread, the mean creeps upward as n becomes larger. People later on in the thread have to claim higher IQs to keep up with the crowd. The mean for the first half page or so is "only" 136, but it shoots upward from there.)

Believe it or not, I started this whole religion/IQ thing, because I fall in the 'Very high' category of cognitive ability, with an overall IQ of 125.

With spelling and understanding written things (I forget the actual category's name), I got the IQ score of 1 point short of genius, 139.

It's just strange how many people are gullible enough to think that online IQ tests are the genuine article. And also how many are prepared to lie through their teeth just to get recognition.

Even Einstein wasn't as intelligent as some of these people claim to be.

EDIT: I've just taken the Tickle online test. It's a fairly good test, but it's nowhere near accurate. It gave me 135, which is a whole 10 points above my official score as given to me by a trained professional. Look up the Weschler test, that's the one I took, but you won't be able to take it online.

Because they are too dense to realize that the online IQ test they took is bogus. If your true IQ is around 120-130, you should score about 150 on some of the online tests. A score of 130 online is probably average.

Seriously how many people really know their IQ? And does an IQ # really prove anything or is it what you do with your abilities that is more telling?

The last time I took an actual IQ test was in High School and we will not even discuss how long ago that was. Maybe you should use ACT/SAT/GMAT/MCAT scores.

many people have the ability to discuss their views and beliefs logical regardless of a #.

By the way I am a non-denominational Christan. God Bless.

I am working on the Mid East Peace Process as we speak. I plan of fixing that right after I clean the dishes from supper.

My expertise is not in the medical field, so sorry about curing cancer or HIV today.

The IQ test I took (on line) did not equate with knowledge, but intelligence, reasoning and complex problem solving, there was not one question about genetics or literature. (good thing)

Maybe the fault is in the on line test?

I don't claim to be a Genius!

Peace!

P.S. to "wise Pagan" you might want to re-read your post, are you sure that #1 has not already happened? You already consider yourself "Wise" and you condemn People that believe in Religion as "slow swimmers" Sounds very egotistical to me.

Just an observation.

I didn't see that but it could be true with some of the IQ tests that are on the Internet. They are not accurate. You can do them over again and improve your score. So people are getting a false reading and believe the results. Even IQ tests administered by psychiatrists are not absolute.

God Bless.

These people probably took some bogus, online I.Q. test. They've probably never seen what the intelligence distribution curve looks like.

Yeah, you'd think that they'd be more interested in doing something else. With my limited, above average I.Q. it's all I can do to stand the stupidity on here sometimes. If I were a genius, I think this place would make my head explode.

Congratulations R&S! You officially hold captive EVERY GENIUS IN THE WORLD!

Way to go!

You also have every Bible scholar on Earth, as well as the only friendly athiests on Earth. What a great place this must be!

Heh.

Unfortunately 70% of the population are under 12 and they are here also, but didn't understand the mathematical results of their IQ test and thought that they had to add a zero at the end.
