In my old car even when I turned it off the power switch would still be on, keeping my xm radio(samsung Nexus) on allowing me to record my favorite shows while at work. With my new car(06 Sonata) the whole unit and power supply shuts off. My question is can I do something to allow my power converter to remain on? Please help.

Take the car back to the dealer and tell them what you want. they will switch the feed from a switched on circuit to a constant on circuit. So you will always have power to the radio. It is no big deal and they should do it for you as a courtesy for buying their car.
