I'm looking to buy a good digital camera and I think around 400$ is probably about as high as I can go (if that, lol) but I'm having trouble finding honest reviews (that I can understand, as I am an amature and they are worded for the experianced). So basically what am asking is, does anyone have any experiance with different cameras in my price range that can give me an honest (and simple) breakdown of which ones are good and which ones suck?

DCResource's reviews tend to be quite straighforward and avoid getting too technical -and yes, they're honest enough.

That said, I completely agree with TomTom: a price range is a nice start, but you still need to specify (either for yourself, or for us to try helping you) things such as preferred size, whether you want/need a lot of optical zoom or not, if you're mainly going to use it with good light or not...

Any of the Canon Powershots are great. Canon invented digital technology so their products are all a step ahead of the competition. I own the SD1000 Elph and it is great! Face recognition is awesome. No matter how much your hand is moving the Stability mode with get your a great shot everytime. The color of the pictures turns out 10 times better than any other camera I tried out at Best Buy. I walked out with a 2G card and the camera for right at $300.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras and learn as much as they can from the internet.
Go to the store and hold them and try them to see what they feel like and how they take pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

my suggestion
go to yahoo shopping
digital cameras
digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions

Good answer TomTom and I would like to add further-

ask the following questions-

do I want a battery powered camera
am I going to travel with the camera- what size do I want
what type of photo's are you aiming to get
do you need zoom
do you need sd compatible

basically look at the needs that you have for your photo taking.

I would recommend the following brands for amateur- Fuji, Sony, canon, and Kodak all make simple and cost effective cameras at a low price Good luck
