i always get upset and start to cry when i get shots before school starts... do you guys have tips to help me stay calm?

I don't like needle much either but aslong as I dont look I am usually alright. Also keep the arm relaxed, the tighter the muscles and skin the harder for the liquid to be injected.
The sting from a shot only lasts about 2 seconds and you wonder why you where so worried.

Don't watch. Don't think about it. If possible, have someone there distract you from the ongoing shot-giving by talking to you.
It helps to let the nurse know you have a "shot problem" so she can be prepared for your possible reaction.
When you think about it, the pain is not really all that bad. It's less than getting your toe stepped on, or a papercut, or biting your tongue. The difference is that you can anticipate it, so the trick is to not permit your mind to go there.

I'm ten. I don't cry. When the doctor holds my arm to give me a shot, I pretend she's looking at a tatoo right there. I inhale through my mouth and exhale through my nose. Don't worry, it'll only be a second and a half.

Don't think about the shot. Look away. Sing a song or put headphones on. Breathe!!

Listen to music, close your eyes and look the other way. It'll all be over in a matter of seconds.

tell a joke and then laugh or calculate difficult math equations...and you won't even feel the needle 2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2 or 3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3x3 should keep your mind pretty busy and you pain free
