Either way doesn't really bother me. I agree with you that sometimes you don't have the time to do laundry right then and there. If the bed is stripped at least you can put the sheets in the laundry and make the bed with comforter or bedspread, with the pillows underneath, so it doesn't look so sloppy in the mean time.

When I am finishing a stay, I either make the bed, or, if the host has indicated that they plan to do the laundry, then I take off the sheets and pillow cases, etc., make the bed with comforter and pillows, and either bring them the sheets for the laundry or leave them neatly folded in a pile at the end of the bed. I wouldn't want to leave the room in a messy appearance for my host by leaving the bed completely unmade or completely stripped, unless they indicated that they would like the bed completely stripped as they are washing everything.

Well, when I'm a houseguest, I make the bed every morning after sleeping in it and try to make it look just like it was when I unmade it the night before. If I'm not going to be there another night, I go to the host and say, "...would you like me to strip the bed for you and bring it to the laundry room?" And then I follow instructions. If they say not to, then I make the bed.

Just leave it unmade. If I'm going to wash the sheets anyway there's no sense in making the bed, and they shouldn't have to strip the beds as they are guests.

I don't have very many guests sleep over, but my preference would be for a guest to strip the bed and the pillows, replace the pillows and cover the bed with the bedspread, fold the blankets, sheets and pillowcases, and leave them on the bed. That way, the bed looks OK, and the host can put the blankets in the cupboard for storage, and take the sheets and pillowcases to the laundry whenever she wants to.

I prefer guests that are relatively neat and considerate. But I don't expect them to actually make the bed. When I offer them a bedroom it is their bedroom. I just close the door. After they leave I strip the bed and put the sheets etc. in the laundry. I make up the bed with clean bedding.

Personally I would like guests to leave the bed unmade. When your guests arrive I'd show them to their bedroom and while I was doing that I would tell them to just leave the bed unmade when they were getting ready to leave and you'll take care of it. :-) That way they know up front what you want them to do. More than likely they are just as confused about what you want them to do with the bed. :-)

Even if you are a guest in someone's home, I feel the least that can be done is the bed. I hate when people just get up and leave the bed unmade. I find it rude and inconsiderate. I dont have any extra space. I have a sofabed and soemtimes I put a rollaway in my toddlers room, so if I see either just not "made", my blood boil!

Why does it matter, you need to wash the linens anyway.
Unless they are a more than one night guest. And don't expect the guests to ask the HOST what the HOST wants...

I like for them to make the bed. If I decide to change the sheets, I'll undo it. My guest is always the same person, so I don't necessarily change the sheets each time.
