The Dutch Bishop in Amsterdam that suggested this idea should put on a T-shirt written in Arabic, stating " we will not be silent" and then send him on a Jet Blue airline heading toward Iraq! This guy is not a true Roman Catholic. Any suggestions on what should be done with him?

Jews, Christians, and Muslims all worship the one true God of Abraham.

Allah is God in Arabic.

The language does not matter:
+ God in English
+ Allah in Arabic
+ Dios in Spanish
+ Dieu in French

Remember God is the title or role and not God's name which is an entirely different discussion.

With love in Christ.

Well, I must say it is not surprising coming from a Catholic. But the reason we can't call Jehovah, Allah is they are two different Gods. Jehovah is the creator of the universe, Allah is one of many gods, the bible talks about when it says there are many gods and many lords. Because the words are all pronounced and spelled the same don't make them equal. One is God, the others gods. Whereby, Christianity is called, along with other religions monotheistic, the fact is there is one supreme being, and many lesser gods. So the ancient Greeks, Romans, etc. weren't wrong.

Allah means The God but some how I doubt he had seriously looked into the history of Allah as the moon God at mecca. it is some strange idea of bringing ,Muslims and Christians together it is not going to work. I can only say I doubt he knows God but then that is not necessary to be a Catholic priest obviously brings the Catholic faith into even more question in my mind and I expect others.

Nikola333 has the right of it. Only Moshe ever actually asked God's name and he got a smartass answer. "I am."

Which is pretty cool when you think about it. God doesn't CARE what you call Him--unless it's late for loaves and fishes.
He IS. That's all we really need to know.

The Bishop is one smart cookie with a nasty turn of mind, probably a Jesuit. It's a conciliatory gesture that'll drive Muslims up the wall.

I don't believe in tossing stones as ot is not Christian either !!
I am roman catholic and must admit stoppped going to church with all the hypocrites I heard from ! Stupidity such as this dutch bishop as said .

I think he should turn in his title and change religions though !!!
Those people above I realize can not understand what you are saying ...like if you did not know "allah is God " on Arabic

why do we then all become arabs and change to their faith ...they would never stop using Allah for God so why should we.

I am not saying they should but I am syaing it is just as stupid for a person to say we should conform to their language terms and beliefs.

The people who get angry at your comments are ignornat ..

Why is the Roman Catholic Church on a self destruct course?

Where do these bishops and priests come from?

Allah is G_D in Arabic.
God is G_D in English.
El is G_D
Elohim is G_D

If you don't realize its just a title like Mr. Mrs. Ms then I don't know what to tell you but that you are being blinded by the media to hate.

G_D of the Bible and the Qu'ran are one in the same. G_D's two edge sword, His Logo's, His words, His books.

Understand history and understand wars and then realize why you are taught to hate Muslims.

He should be given a medal for stepping away from the usual banter of moon gods and whatever other spin people try to put on the name, and for actually trying to foster peace and good relations between a country's different religious communities.

Pitty more can't have the balls to do something most people wouldn't dare to these days; form an opinion all on their own.

Well the names Allah, God, Bhagwan, Wah Guru etc all point towards our creator. As far as the guy wearing the t shirt "we'll not be silent". If his intention is to mock the religion Iraqis follow, then I can only imagine wat can happen to him.

Peace for everybody. Peace for all :)

The same this that we do every night, Pinky.... er, nevermind.

He should be left to do what he wants. If he wants to refer to his God as Allah, then so be it. But he has to be prepared to deal with all of the qualities of calling Him Allah.

If he wants to call God Zeus or Jupiter or Odin or whatever, that's his business, but he has to be prepared to deal with the baggage of changing a deity's name.

The reason I don't call my God Allah is because there are attributes of Allah that I don't think that God has, and there are attribute of God that Allah does not have.
