I have a sick feral cat in my backyard--he's about 5-6 months old--he's become injured in his mouth and is not able to eat. Animal control tried to catch him--with no luck--and I can't get close enough to him to even pet him. He lives inder my shed--but comes out everyday crying and looking at me --i wish desperately I could help him--he's starving to death--can anyone tell me when it comes his time will he go off in the woods and die or will it be under my shed where he's lived? Thx.

yes -I have tried trapping him--but without eating he won't go near it. Animal control shot a sedative dart but it wasn't strong enough--said he'd come back but that was 2 days ago--can't get ahold of him--and my spca doesn't answer or call me back.

i'm ashamed of animal control... they could have used sedative guns to knock him out and take the poor suffering animal. i wonder why they did not.

i'm so sorry for that poor kitty. it's hard to tell if he will go elsewhere and die, or just stay there...

i sure wish there were something to do for the poor thing.

sending hugs to you and that kitty.

I'd like to know where you live. Animal control is not doing the job they are paid for. They should have left a Hav-a Heart trap out there for him. This could be a dangerous situation, you have no idea what the cat may have. If he's living under your shed he may very well die there, if he does be sure you do not handle his body without heavy gloves on. Call animal control back and ask them to bring a trap out and try it.

If you cannot get animal control on the phone go to them in person. Explain what has happened so far and tell them the injured feral needs a stronger sedative dart.
If they are able to catch the cat his fate may depend on the extent of his injury. If his injury is difficult to treat it may be best to euthanize him, which would be more humane than letting him starve to death.
Tell animal control your main concern is you don't want this animal to suffer.

Have you tried putting out a humane trap? You can sometimes rent/borrow these from your local shelters or other organizations in your area. You might be able to lure him/her in with some tuna, once they step on the platform, the back will come down behind them and close. This will at least allow you to take him/her to the vet to at least be put out of their suffering if they are not able to be cured. Please do something soon, this baby is begging you for help. Also, try contacting a rescue organization in your local area, they might be able to provide you with more assistance. Good Luck!

Give him tuna or thinly sliced salmon

The soft consistency of both should help him eat and even like you!!!

Also, if this still to hard for him to eat, wet some sliced bread without the borders on some fish broth. Slightly warm the broth.

If he can lick (instead of chew) add warm water to canned cat food until it's sort of goopy and see if he can get that down on his own. Or offer a jar of meat baby food (just meat, no veggies) on a plate (take it out of the jar) and see if he can put that down on his own.

unfortunately i think he may leave and go someplace you can't find him. i've heard it said that cats go away when they know they're going to die.

that's really sad, though... did they try cat traps or anything like that? if he can't eat, he must be ravenous. i would think a cat trap would work...
