Easy question. A testimony is an account of life. Anyone is entitled to record their impermanent experiences and most people do this on blogs nowadays.
There are no 'holy books' in the Bible but there is a record of people recounting their experiences of God with a mixture of failure and success in understanding the nature, character, love, grace, form, will and purposes of God. There is a 'holy person' but no 'holy books'. It is the stupid Romans who labeled the books 'Holy', because they thought that Jesus had endorsed them all as such. Silly Roman babarians.
I believe that there is only one person who is Holy and that is, God. He came in the flesh to give a testimony about himself that didn't need to rely on human testimony of any kind, neither on words that have been used to describe him before he came nor on words that have been used since. He even said these things himself recorded by John.
A true testimony is one that is self attesting and I guarantee if you spend less time using questions as an expression of your unbelief and more time believing in the testimony of Jesus and in his dialogue with very religious atheists you will grasp what self-attesting means.
Truths are presented in our schools as indisputable based on facts available at the time but in succeeding generations these 'facts' often get revised when new facts are discovered. i.e. the world was considered flat and taught as such. In view of this, the future 'truth' is going to reshape what we believe today as truth and so on ad infinitum.
Place Jesus in this ad infinitum revision of reality as one who spoke with certainty about eternity and you will begin to understand that 'truth' based on impermance and change is not going to give us certain truth today, nor tomorrow, since it belongs to a continuum of change and discovery.
At this slow rate, you will not have enough time to evolve into knowing the truth that Jesus brought because you'll be dead and cut off by the time it is fully known. Ironically, the fulness of time is also the fulness of knowing that Jesus did not lie.
Better to find out this truth before you die than after.

I don't believe they did believe they were inspired by god. It's the people who come later and read the books who try to say that god did it all.

They didn't. The bible for instance is a mixture of vague historical facts, suppositions drawn from those facts., some myths made up because the author wanted to impress people and some political material designed to gain or keep power over people.
