Fact is it doesn't, you ask any doctor or nurse, they will tell you it makes things worse, a doctor wont prescribe it any more, i asked for it for my son who had chicken pox and he refused saying they found it only relieves the symptoms for a couple of Minuit's and stops spots from drying out properly also the itch is still there, sorry cant help you but thought this might be a different answer to think about.

it supposed to have some type of anihistimine in it. Calamine lotion is not good for itching, it actually cause it to itch more.

it works like an anti inflametry cools the skin and calms it down like as if you get stung by a nettle and u use doc leafs it is good stuff my mam used to use it years ago

it stops the air getting to it...same as nail varnish....no i havent gone mad...paint the sting/rash and it does work
