The majority of serial killers have been sexually abused. Do you think that if you molest a child then he becomes a serial killer should the abuser be considered a accessory after the fact?

You've asked a good question and got some good answers. Here's my take:

I believe that the serial killer's past should be taken into account before sentencing. Yes an abuser is likely to have been abused, just as the child of an alcoholic has a strong chance of abusing or forming a relationship with someone who abuses alcohol.

Then there is the problem of where does the blame stop? Children of fatherless homes are more prone to certain crimes too. Should we lock up the mothers who made the decision to not marry before giving birth as well?

80% of rapists with anger problems come from fatherless homes — 14 times the average (Justice & Behavior)

- 85% of all youths in prison come from fatherless homes — 20 times the average. (Texas Department of Correction)

Contrary to the former comment, almost anyone can be rehabilitated. Saying someone can't, is just an excuse to make them someone else's problem. If our country's "correctional and rehabilitative" system spent more time correcting and rehabilitating the prisoners rather than warehousing and re-abusing them, the vicious "i was molested/abused/mistreated" cycle would stop.

Not to take anything away from the above answer (wow)..... But here is my Rational answer:

I agree with your point about many, but not all, serial killers being abused. I also agree that many abusers were abused as children. But, as far as charging them as an accessory, it won't fly. Many people have been exposed to evil and do not become offenders.

That said, would DO think that true pedophiles (no, not the 18 year old boy having sex with his 17 year old girlfriend) should have a one strike and your out provision. You molest one child you go to prison or a mental institution for life.

Every scientific study done has shown the child molesters CAN NOT be cured or rehabilitated.

Following your logic, many child molesters were also molested as children. If we feel sorry for them as the victims when children, at what age are they supposed to "magically" turn around, outgrow the effects of their own personal molestation and become functioning, law-abiding members of society. Do we stop feeling sorry for them at 14? 15? 18? Or only when they turn around and repeat the cycle that can be expected with high probability?

I think the sexually repressive conservatives should be held accountable for teaching the evils of premarital sex, thus shaming a natural instinct.... the judgment of sex as evil makes it a conduit of evil....
porn exists, only because it is shameful... this is also true with child molestation.... reduce the stigma around sex and reduce the crimes

did you know that in all of history 30 or 40 year old men married 11 or 12 year olds.... why is it evil now.... what if it is innate.....
why do little girls wear makeup and flaunt their sexuality at 12...
