Another one is the assumption that all of us live a wild sex and drug filled amoral life, which I do not. I've never even tried cigarettes and waited until 22 to have a first drink.

I get awfully tired of people's assumptions.

Linda J, sweetie, I said some theists. I didn't say all, now did I? There's a reason for that. Many Christians are very decent people and some of my best friends.

yah i know. its pretty sad/pathetic that people honestly have no idea that people who dont believe in god dont necessarily go roam around doing drugs and having sex with anything that moves...

i think the church taught them this load of nonsense.

"I get awfully tired of people's assumptions."

As an athiest (or agnostic, as I am), you can get really tired of being called close-minded for not believing what theists are taught every Sunday. It's not really worth arguing over, because you can't expect a theist to 'think outside the box' about the possibility that their religion isn't logical.

I have some questions posted about creationism and (as predicted) got mostly level-headed answers from the nonreligious types, and mostly indoctrinated babble from the religious ones. Still, there are some theists out there who have open minds and are willing to think about issues on their own, and come up with opinions that might not match those of their congregations.

Try not to let it make you cynical! Discrimination and prejudice are just things that we have to deal with as members of a minority group.

Yes, she's an idiot. People like her are the reason that when people ask me if I'm a Christian, I'll reply no, I'm an Episcopalian. Some of the religious right people make assumptions about us as well. I think it's pure intellectual laziness on any ones part who relies on a stereotype.

Well, if it's not true of you, why do you care? There always have been and there always will be stereotypes. Some people are closed-minded and believe those stereotypes are true across the board. That's how life is. Don't get your panties in a wad over somebody's stupid question. That's taking away from the time you could be spending living your life.

Yeah, she has been here a while and should know better by now but she persists with that stuff.

They think that we:

Have had our feelings hurt by christians
That we are "mad at god"
That we are depressed
That we're rebelling against our families
We choose Atheism so we can start every morning by pouring whiskey on our cheerios and raping a few neighbors.

It gets a little tiring! (the presumptions. Not the cheerios n whiskey!)

Sounds more like they are accusing Atheists to be Hedonists.

I think she's a troll. I haven't answered any of her questions in a long while.

I am an alcoholic, drug addicted, perverted, violent, gossiping, raping, murdering, atheist scumbag like all other atheist scumbags. There's no hope for me I tell ya. I simply refuse to accept Jesus Christ as my LORD and SAVIOR as that's just atheists for you - stubborn sinners who can't accept the truth.

Don't you just get tired of people's teeny tiny boxes?
I know I'm sick of seeing all these asinine remarks non-believers like to say about Christians.
Its as if they look at one or two bad apples in the cart and say the whole bunch is bad.

No, these are the assumptions of ONE, not some. For someone tired of people's assumptions, you are making one yourself.
