I have also heard this, and it could be true, but how would we really know? Also watch out for them crawling in your ears!!

It isn't true, read this:

http://www.snopes.com/science/stats/spiders.asp

Claim: The average person swallows eight spiders per year.

Status: False.

Origins: Oh, yuk! Spider It's hard enough to avoid those horrible wriggly things while we're awake, and now we have to worry that they're crawling into our mouths while we sleep? Little Miss Muffett was a piker.

Fear not. This "statistic" was not only made up out of whole cloth, it was invented as an example of the absurd things people will believe simply because they come across them on the Internet.

In a 1993 PC Professional article, columnist Lisa Holst wrote about the ubiquitous lists of "facts" that were circulating via e-mail and how readily they were accepted as truthful by gullible recipients. To demonstrate her point, Holst offered her own made-up list of equally ridiculous "facts," among which was the statistic cited above about the average person's swallowing eight spiders per year, which she took from a collection of common misbeliefs printed in a 1954 book on insect folklore. In a delicious irony, Holst's propagation of this false "fact" has spurred it into becoming one of the most widely-circulated bits of misinformation to be found on the Internet.

Yes, that is true. And there are allot of different little tidbits about stuff like that. But don't worry it's probably good for ya. All that protein...lol. But seriously the average person eats about 2 pounds of bugs every year. So if you think about it it's probably a good thing. There you go all you veggies eat you hearts out......MOooohaaaaaa!!!!! :-) And for those people who says that there are no spiders in their room or house, I have a little suprise. At all time, 24 hours a day 365 days a year, there is a sider or spiders within 2 feet of you. Good night!! Don't let the bed bugs bite....Bed bugs...that's for an other day.

I don't think its 3 a year.. i read its about 1 on average... but they don't just crawl in your mouth and down your throat.. if anything they would be hiding in food that you eat.. especially fresh foods.

Its nothing to worry about.. they are not talking about big huge deadly spiders.. more little flower one that are harmless...

Your friend is just exaggerating

I heard it was 5 spiders a year.

And if you live on a boat or somewhere near water, it's literally like more than 20 a year.

I was told 8 spiders within a lifetime. A high school teacher told me that, but I don't know if it's true. I guess it's possible.

Not a chance considering I drink enough Vodka a night to kill a horse. The little arachnid would fumagate. Anyone sleeping outdoors who knows.

Yes it's true. They crawl into your mouth and depending on how you sleep you might munch on them or they'll crawl down your throat and you accidentlaly swallow them.

I don't think so, why,

1. I sleep with my mouth closed
2. there aren't any spiders in my room
3. you would choke

The only way it could be true, if they are microscopic and non poisionous and if you slept with your mouth open.

Now, I have swolled many bugs while driving my motor scooter lol.
