Because it seems like it isn't according to the answers I see at times.

Perhaps it should. Like a dialog asking if you actually read the details, if there are any, before hitting submit.

Yeah I guess the long ones suck.

I'm guilty of long details sometimes.

The reason people take the time to type in details (whether long or short) are because they pertain to the question or the asker's beliefs. I always read them, because I want to make sure I have a good idea of the question. That said, clearly others don't bother to read the details and I think that sort of defeats the purpose of this site. A one-sentence question to me is not always clear.

Of course, there also seem to be people that just hop from question to question and say whatever is on their mind, whether it applies to the question or not.

Sometimes it seems like people answer before getting through the entire question. I once asked a question about the Big Bang and had somebody respond as if I'd asked a question about humans evolving from apes.

I'm guilty of long details, too. But let's face it: this isn't P&S. Sometimes you need to go into details to get your point across when tackling deep issues. If people are too lazy to read, that's their fault. They'd be better off elsewhere.

Yesterday I posed a question and although the details SPECIFICALLY STATED that the question refered to the Greek Demi-God and Hero Hercules the VERY FIRST respondent made biblical referances to Mary, Mother of Jesus!

He apparantly did not read far enough down and got stuck on the person's mother being described as being of royal lineage......

Often questioners ask complicated questions - and give details which add to the length of answers or equally confuse the issue. It can then become a matter of what part of the question to answer.

In defense of the answerers, people need to learn how to get to the point with a question. Few people wish to read an entire epistle just to learn that the question was misleading in the first place.

If you cannot ask a question in less than a paragraph, then you should be in a blog area or chat room.

I hope not, cuz I usually just skim them. I often skip answering questions entirely with long drawn out details.

It would be nice if yahoo would display the detail on the "answer" page... many people have no short term memory.

3 people told me I was an "idiot Christian" just yesterday. They somehow missed the 3 or 4 references I put in mentioning that I wasn't a Christian.

It's given me a new respect for the BS that Christians have to put up with on here, anyway!
