I've alwas been pretty thin, and so has my mum, but my gran and my aunt were thin until their late teens then got seriously overweight.
I'm 18 and in the past 6 months have gained about 14 lbs and continue to put on more weight all the time, despite not eating over 2000 calories a day and keeping fairly active. Why am I gaining so much weight? It's really upsetting that a lot of my lovely clothes don't fit any more and I'm worried I'll end up obese like my aunt and gran. I've had my blood checked for problems with my thyroid but it's normal. Please help!?

the source of calories is just as important as the calories provided. the foods that we eat have a direct impact on the endocrine system and the endocrine system governs the human body. the more whole foods in your diet the greater the positive effect there will be on the metabolism.

I'm going through the same thing! When I was 18 I weighed 120 and now I weigh 145 2 years later. You can tell I've gained a little weight but its not bad because I dont look fat at all. I think I just filled out more. When I tell people my weight they all say "No ur not"! I think all girls just hit a growth spurt around that age! Idk! If I loose weight it just comes back. I also think your metabolism slows down so maybe that's why!

The answer is simple; diet and exercise.

1) Have a healthy and balanced permanent diet: dark green vegetables, fresh fruits, whole wheat and whole grain products, non-fat dairy products, fish, poultry breast, lean red meat, egg white.

You should cut out all sugar, soda, non-whole grain products and saturated fats: These aliments should only be a reward for achieving a goal, not a habit!
Get list of calories in food from the following link:
http://www.weight-loss-choice.com/Food_Calories_List.html

2) Start exercising

Aerobic and weight training will raise your metabolic rate. In result, your body will burn more calories.

* aerobic exercising

3 times per week, conduct an exercise that keeps your heart rate elevated for at least 30-45 minutes (ex: walking, running, cycling, swimming, aerobics, etc: check out following link for more details about good exercise choices http://www.weight-loss-choice.com/Exercise_and_Diet.html)

* weight training

Alternate days of aerobics with weight training. You will build muscles that will burn more calories, even when at rest!

The only way to lose weight is to lose fat proportionately from your entire body by burning more calories than you consume. So making healthy food choices and exercise is my suggestion.

Hope this answer helps.
Take care,

I think you should go on a diet. You shoud for example, go to your house, and go to a placei n your house that has the most open space. Just run IN PLACE there, and keep running and keep running. Then, you could drink only about 2 glasses of water, and rest about 5 minutes. You'll lose at least 4 pounds in that week I think. I that same thing to me, and I lost 1 pound, (Since I ate too much). Your welcome

you may want to have your thyroid checked. I have recently went through the same thing, and found out my thyroid is high.

Could be an insulin problem, and it could also be a pituitary gland problem.

Best to check it out with your doctor.
