MM MM good... I love this question... there are so many things you can do with artichokes... first of all with the leaves you eat the meaty part which is located at the base of each leaf... once you're through all the leaves you're going to come to the heart... it's covered by what looks like little hairs (the old mans beard) scrape all that out... if that gets caught in your throat it's a bad experience... any who then you can eat the heart and stem... I prefer to steam them in chicken broth... it gives it a little extra flavor then dip them in melted butter... but there are a few ways to make them... you can also stuff them which is where you'd slice the tips of the leaves and the stem right by the base... now you can keep the stem for your stuffing but the leaves you throw away... then you stuff it with lets say sausage, some peppers, breadcrumbs and the stem... (obviously you'll have to chop all of it to fit it in) then gently pry the leaves apart and begin to stuff it... you can be a little rough if you'd really like to get that stuffing in there but try to be as gentle as possible... then you steam them...

I LOVE artichokes and make them quite often. I steam them. Wash them and then put them in a steamer on high. I check to see if there done by grabbing a hot mitt and pulling off a single leaf. If it comes out easily then it's done! Grab a small dish and mix mayo, garlic, little bit of ranch and a little lemon juice. Mix it well. Grab a big bowl for the leaves.
Take a leave and dip the part that is attached to the artichoke (make sure it's not too hot). Slid off the meaty part with your teeth. Keep doing that until it's to the flimsy leaves, which you can still try to get meat off of. Then Take off the excess leaves and there you have the heart. Take a spoon and scoop all that hair stuff out of there and cut around the edge alittle. Then cut the heart up into little squares and put them in the dip. ENJOY, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!!

Snip the sharp points, and cut the bottom stem. Then place it in a pan of water and steam them. Pull each leaf off, and dunk it in butter. Only eat the meaty artichoke at the bottom of the leaf (1/4 to 1/2" or so). Put it between your teeth and pull.

Trim the spiky suggestions off the leaves, place in a steamer basket and steam them on the range for variety of an hour (finding on the dimensions of your artichoke and the section you reside in - may be shorter or longer time) you would be attentive to they're accomplished once you are able to easily pull a leaf off of each and every artichoke. I cook dinner mine stem up. I soften a splash butter and stir in some mayo to make a dipping sauce. super common, only takes awhile!

Wash artichokes under cold running water. Cut off stems at base and remove small bottom leaves. Stand artichokes upright in deep saucepan large enough to hold snugly. Add 1 teaspoon salt and two to three inches boiling water. (Lemon juice, herbs, garlic powder or onion powder may be added, if desired.) Cover and boil gently 35 to 45 minutes or until base can be pierced easily with fork. (Add a little more boiling water, if needed.) Turn artichokes upside down to drain. Cool completely; cover and refrigerate to chill.

artichokes are usually steamed or boiled or somethinglike that. I think it is cooked a lot like broccoli. I do know how to eat it though....
you peel off each leaf and then there is a meaty section at the bottom of the leaf that you pulled off. You kind of scrape that part off with your teeth. It's delicious though.

No just scrape the bottom of the leaf with your with your teeth and discard the rest. You can eat the entire heart (center) of the artichoke once you remove all the prickly ummmm stuff (for lack of a better word)

No you have to peel off all the outer leaves, you eat the heart of the vegtable. It is more work to clean it then it is to eat it.
When you clean it though in the heart you have to take out the middle which has hairs and spikes you want to cut that out too . Use a pearing knife it will help with the cutting.
Also have a cool water with lemon juice where you can put the clean hearts so they don't turn brown.
From there you can grill, fry, boil, etc

You can eat the inner leaves as well as the heart of the artichoke. However, you'll have to come up with a recipe elsewhere - I detest the nasty things!
