Take a hot bath with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts. Soak for 30 minutes. The Epsom salts will help eliminate the lactic acid that forms on the muscles from over exertion.

Massage an analgesic cream into the sore muscles.

Dehydration can cause severe pain in the muscles. I recommend you drink purified water mixed with mineral water 50/50. This will replace the minerals that are exiting your body continuously. You must drink beyond your thirst to get the benefits of hydration.

I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day. Realize that exercise, ambient temperature, and state of health affect the water needs of your body. One tip for athletes: it is healthier to drink a sports drink or water than fruit juice, soda, coffee, or milk during competition or active training periods.

500mg of calcium and magnesium, taken twice daily, can help with diminishing the pain.

Advil liqui capsules work very quickly on pain. Take them four times daily.

I would recommend some light yoga. It always, always makes me feel better when I'm very stiff. If you're in more pain than you are stiff, I'd do as others have recommended first and ice your most painful muscles, and I'd also alternate ice and a heating pad. When you feel comfortable moving around again, try renting a beginners yoga video, or catch Namaste Yoga on Fit TV (on several times a day)...you'll stretch muscles you never knew you could stretch before, plus it's relaxing and not something so strenuous that you'll end up in pain again. If you're not into yoga, stretch the way they have you stretch in softball, and always make sure you stretch before and after any muscle involving activity in the future or you could end up with permanent damage.

Feel better, and good luck with the softball team!

Icing is a great idea. You may also want to go for a short jog (to warm up your muscles) and then stretch really well. After that, hop in a cold shower. Does the trick for me.

you can try taking an ice bath or just icing down the sore areas and do some stretching.
