wow people just don't get it. If he went to heaven then what did he sacrifice?

I tend to agree.

The true measure of sacrifice is in what is lost, or given up. It's much more noble for you or I to give $100 to a homeless person than it is for Donald Trump to do so -- Trump could afford to wipe his @ss with that C-note.

So let's look at Jesus' "sacrifice":

He gives up, what? Ten, maybe 25 years at the most, living as a rabbi in a Bronze Age backwater?

And in exchange, he gets to RULE, in PARADISE, forEVER.

And he didn't even really give up his life, because he took it back three days later!

The story of the crucifixion only works as a noble gesture if THIS life is the only one we get; but Jesus is so quick to go along with his Father's/His plan precisely BECAUSE he knows he'll get right back up again!

Anne Rice brought up something like this in her book Memnoch the Devil.

Was the sacrifice as meaningful since Jesus knew he was god. He was god the time he was on earth. He knew he would go to heaven. Did he ever really suffer?

Interesting though.

That is an Incredibly insightful question!

I'm not a bible expert, but I do remember that it says he sits at the right hand of the Father. I interpret that as Jesus being God's "right hand man". Someone who goes and does important things for there boss.

So... who's to say he didn't come right back down to earth and spend all his time doing stealth work for God, ever since then. In difference guises. In different bodies?

But hey, what do I know?

All the best to all

Jesus took into his body all of the sins of mankind... Past, present, and future. The sin debt of every individual , living or yet to be was paid in full by the shedding of The Blood of Jesus The Christ... the eternal agony Christ suffered in doing this was beyond mortal understanding...

Your sin debt has been paid... No one else... not even you... could have done that.... you owe Him Big Time... the thing is.. there is nothing you can do to repay Him... and He dose not expect you to... It was a Fee Gift..... I consider that extremely Meaningful... you would have to be extremely self centered to not think so as well.

I wonder how meaningful it would be for anyone who had to stand, in line, waiting for the judgement, 'of their own sins?! & Just as their name was called, to be 'flogged, then crucified,.... A Stranger steps out of the crowd and 'volunteers' to subject himself to the punishment they deserved. Do you suppose that might make a difference? Would it to you? Do you know anyone else, who would go even half 'that distance' for you? In the time He was on this earth, Jesus encountered and overcame all the forces of hell, so you would'nt have to become their' eternal roommates'!

Think about whom Jesus gets to spend eternity with. You've read what some of these heaven bound believers think right? Nothing is a bigger sacrifice than having to put up with that for eternity.

Jesus hung on the cross...could look through time...see this question...have this sin...all sins,of past, present, future,on Him...a Lord and Savior who left the glories of Heaven and put on flesh as a man, walked as a man,yet NEVER sinned, was now carrying EVERY SIN as HE hung on the cross...His own Father who cannot stand to look upon sin, could not look at HIm,and at any time all He had to do was call 10,000 angels to carry Him from the cross.Yet knowing this...He still hung there looked through time and said I'll die for that person who's going to ask that question...because I LOVE THEM! He came off the crosswent down to hell and released the saints, conquered death and hell and then rose the third day VICTORIOUS and YES went back to HEAVEN and one day HE'S coming back for all of THOSE who CHOOSE to simply ASK HIM into their hearts!

He was perfect, so staying in hell would not have been possible. He took on the sin, took to hell/death where it died, it was destroyed. But he himself was of a pure heart, so death/hell could not keep him down. He came back, appeared to lots of disciples and told them to wait for an outpouring of God's power on them that they may take on that same ressurecting ability.

No, they don't get it. They're just blind to it.

Truth is, he didn't "die" at all. He was gone for 3 days. But "Jesus Had A Bad Weekend For Your Sins" tested poorly as a marketing slogan.

The problem with that scenario is Jesus was destroying the illusion of death to mortal man and demonstrating there was nothing to fear in death. Jesus going to a nonexistent place was not possible.
