20 years ago I was living the life I wanted to be living, married, 2 kids, stay at home mom.
Then the hand of fate stepped in and took over for about 10 years. I was taking care of my invalid mother and day by day she slowly went downhill till she passed away last year.
Now I am sort of living the life I want to though not the life I had planned. I got older too fast as time sped by. My kids grew up too fast. My family didn't get to go on nice long vacations like I thought families should do. I don't think I could go back to the career I had before I had my kids because it is too hard a job so I would have to start over and I have no idea what I would like to do, so I do nothing. I guess that is fate and limbo.

I would say right now I'm living the life the hand of fate dealt mainly because I'm still in college and haven't really gotten a chance to explore the things that I want to do. Of course I picked the college and the major and all that but I ended up going to the college in the town I've lived in since 5th grade. So that sounds like fate to me. But I have plans for the future very vivid ones and with only 2 more years (hopefully) of college left to go I will soon be living the life that i want to be living!

Hi Friendly Kim :+)
I agree with Hy003002: This is not an easily answered question . . . As someone who does believe in a Higher Entity ruling our lives (Fate/God/YHWEH/Allah - call IT what you want) - I do believe your destinies are pre-planned, yet HOW we reach that pre-planned end-result is left pretty much up to us. We do have free choice in the sense that there are always options to choose from: right and / or wrong . . . So in a certain way, we live the lives we want to be living, within the parameters of what is pre-ordained.
For someone such as yourself, who clearly has a positive outlook on life, the majority of the choices you make will be have a positive outcome in the end, and for the more negatively orientated ones, the end result would probably reflect that negativism.
Thanx for the well-wishing - again! Ditto 2U!!

Hi!
Wants are different from needs. Once thats clear, you understand that you cannot always have your way. Thats because as a human being you are a social animal and are governed by some rules.
You can live life two ways
Live the way you want and let others go to hell
or
live with consideration and compassion so that you dont trample over too many people as you find your own* nirvana*
Fate doesnt deal hand, you do. To yourself. If you equip yourself to deal with whats dished out , be content and actually make sense of it all, you are a winner!
Cheers n chin up:)

No I am not living the life I would like. I am not unhappy, but I know it should have been different. It's not fate. I made some poor choices when I was young and those determined the course of my life. When ever I came to a crossroads I usually made the wrong choice. I hope these few remarks can serve as a reminder to young people to be extra careful in the choices they make now because they will effect your entire life.

It is not that simple to answer this wonderful question. Anyhow I'll try to be as brief as possible: I am 61
1] up to 18 - the hand of fate
2] up to 23 - studying hard at college. I had no sense of the art of making a good life. All I wanted to do was to succeed.
3] up to 60 - working hard to be successful in my beloved career - teaching English as a foreign language. Again, I forgot myself, my social life, but I was one of the most imminent ones in my city - Alexandria, Egypt. I had and got what I planned for. The last post I held was a consultant of English Language
4] Now: The hand of Fate.
I am even trying to find a job, but in my country, age works against me, sorrowfully enough!!

I'm living a life that fate dealt me... when I was 19 I got pregnant with my 1st child.. it was unplanned and the father was just a good friend who is no longer a friend since we had a child together.. go figure! Then I'm now pregnant with child # 2 which is also unplanned but at least I'm in love with the father of this one and I'm sure we are going to make it. If fate wanted me to be a good mother.. I am!

Well not the life I want, but the life I deserve. This is the result of choices I have made. Only now with a foster child in my care, have I realised why I had to experience some of the hardships I did, I was being groomed to be someone’s mother.
Our lives are so entwined and their are so many common experiences, its truly uncanny.

I'm living the life the hand of fate has dealt me while pursing the life I want to be living. It's an endless cycle. I guess I'm never content.

Though if am doomed to live the life i am destined into. I would still prefer to live in the life i want to be living in. In the former there are more challenges in life. You have to sweat it out to achieve your goals. Unlike in fate your life depends on it. You are like a prisoner in a cell without human freedom. I don't want life to be breathing in a four-walled corner. I want a life full of space where i could breath the fresh air while i carve my life to create a comfort living structure.
