If God is more powerful than us, why is it that we can forgive without killing ourselves but he can't?

Supposedly God made Jesus die on the cross for your sins, and Jesus IS God, so he killed himself.

Their inconsistencies in the story of their God and their Jesus are part of the reason why I'm an atheist. An all-powerful Deity wouldn't need to die to get his point across. An all-loving Deity wouldn't require that those he loves die to receive his love.

Friend, First God is not mad at us, He is saddened at the fact that we choose to sin. Remember, we all have free will. Second, Jesus died for our sins so that we may inherit eternal life if we so choose. There are ultimately two ways man can receive eternal life, they are heaven or hell. That choice is up to your free will. In the old Testament God required a blood sacrifice with lambs and calf's for the redemption of our sins, which would be a never ending sacrifice and, which was no longer acceptable to God. So, God sent His One and only Beloved Son to become the ultimate sacrifice for man. If you take the time to read the old and new Testaments of the Holy Bible you will begin to understand. God bless.

God didn't die, Christ died. They are separate beings, not the same. That's how Christ can be the Son. He also didn't kill Himself, he was killed by OTHER PEOPLE- might want to read your bible a little more.

Anyways, that's beside the point. God can forgive anyone He wants, but it's up to us to show we are sorry, and then ask to be forgiven. Christ acts as the go-between for us and God. It's kinda like when you did something wrong when you were a kid, and mom talked to dad about it so you wouldn't get in as much trouble. Same thing with God and Christ.

It isn't the fact that he cannot forgive. It is the fact that a righteous and Holy God cannot allow sin to go unpunished. He loves us so much that he took the punishment of death upon himself so that we don't have too.
A good way to look at it is to think of a judge. A judge could let you walk away free after you commit murder. You would really like the benefits of his actions, but you would begin to question if he were actually a good judge if he let everyone off. In fact, after a while, most people would think of him as a crooked judge.
If you thought God let everybody get by with sin, you wouldn't even have as high opinion of him as you do now.

Because before than there was no way to heaven, only repentance was sacrifice. He died so he could go to hell, fight with the devil, and steal the keys to heaven so he could bring his prophets to heaven who in that time were sitting in Abrahams chest. I also think that after this some people saw the ghost of Elijah and other prophets walking the earth the day Jesus was resurrected, or something like that.

Not only that but I think he went through all that persecution to show us he has done it before and he can do it again through us, and to show us how much he loves us, he could have wiped out sin just by saying sin be gone, but he did it his way, to show the most love and compassion, ever! Just hear this, When the soldiers whipped him down to his backbone, he turned his head and said "This blood is for you"

"I have learned silence from the talkative, tolerance from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind. I should not be ungrateful to those teachers" - Kahlil Gibran

So I'd like to take this time to thank you, teacher :)

PS When I have a question I honestly want answered, I go straight to the source, not ask the people for their different ideas. The bible says all that we believe, and if you really care, you can look it up yourself. And since I am assuming you won't do this I'm guessing you also are not really interested in finding the real answer, which leaves me with nothing more to say to you, other than God Bless :)

You have it all wrong. Briefly, Christians believe that mankind was in good graces with God and able to die and go to heaven. After defying and angering God, the gates of heaven were closed to man.

Jesus, God's son, came to earth as a man to teach mankind how to reconcile themselves with God. He died and God reopened the gates of heaven to Jesus and those that chose to follow his teachings.

God did not kill himself. Where did you get that from?

BTW- I am not a Christian but I have studied religions extensively. Most religions are good and teach positive ways to live ones life. Although I am not a religious person (I am a Deist) I do respect what most religions try to do. I hope you are not simply trying to make fun of them.

God gave up his son....... because he loved us. Forgiveness is the gift he gave to us. Would you let your son die for no reason.?Neither did God, Christ knew what his mission was and even he asked God to release from his burden.

Christ died so we can find forgiveness . The forgiveness he gave is meant for all to share with one an other.
If you follow in the path of Christ you can ask for forgiveness and be forgiven. Your Sins are flung as far as the universe, never to be brought up again. and by Christ doing as his father asked him, We are forgiven .
No more blood shed.. just faith.
