You bet it does!

Look around you - look at the people who are doing well, have good jobs, have good lives. Then look at the ones that don't have anything nice, that constantly complain that they don't have any luck, that they are always put down. Now consider the work habits of both, and tell me what the difference is.

I work for a Big 10 university. You can always tell the kids who are willing to work hard to accomplish a goal. Good grades make it easier to get into college, and the study habits it takes to get the grades makes it easier to do well in college. Employers look at your grades when deciding to hire you or not.

Bottom line - if you want to be a success in life, you have to work for it. If you want to flip burgers, struggle along with no money, and complain that you never get any good breaks, just schlep along doing as little as possible. You'll get there in no time.

I was having this discussion with our Salutatorian the other day. She busted her *** in highschool, barly enjoyed the life she had back then because she wanted to get into a good college. She did and then went on the law school. All this and she never wanted to be a laywer or practice anything involving law. Me on the other hand was on cruise control all of highschool. I mean I got into a good school in Penn State so I didn't exactly have these such *** grades. I am a natural smart person. I got Bs in the classes she got As in by listening to the teacher and putting my feet up. There were times when we had to read novels in english class that I got As on all the tests and essays without opening the book (or using cliff notes or watch the movie or asking people on Yahoo! Answers to do my hw for me). I enjoyed myself in highschool, she dreaded every minute. Right now she is doing something she loves to do (which is far below her potential) that frankly she didn't need to exhert herself the way she did. She might have liked it more if she had not been up doing the same HW I was doing when she would get done at 2 am and I would be done before I left class doing ti half-assed. It is just something to think about.

good grades in high school = good college = good job

That's the theory anyway. I had a 3.4 when I graduated high school and I could have totally done better and gone to one of my dream schools... but I also ended up at a school that I'm really happy with and an education worth being proud of.
Work as hard as you can throughout life and life will happen as its supposed to.
