Security Forces? No. You will standing at a gate, outside, possibly for 12 hour shifts. You will be in Iraq or deployed every 6 months. You will work irregular shifts just like new police cadets. Your AF training will be in the same place as basic (Lackland afb). You WILL work holidays monitoring the flight lines.
I was in the AF for 4 years and I can tell you the best jobs are Administrative jobs or medical positions. I was an Air Traffic Controller. Recruiters may use less obvious tactics to enlist you in the 'needed jobs'. Please don't fall for this.
Security Forces is harder to fill and there is a reason why some AFSCs offer BIG bonuses to enlist or reenlist in them!!
as long as you are in DEP you can still change your afsc. You might imagine an admin job as a female, secretary, do-girl stereotype. In the military, administrative jobs are far from that. Admin people work with commanders and many times PILOTS, they in process/out process Airmen, prepare other Airmen for long deployments, they work with top secret projects, build computers and deal with electronic security issues. They also train! Admin people are also out in the "field", the office setting isn't necessarily where you would be....

If I were you I would do a little more research on the different jobs that are offered in the AF. Depending on your ASVAB score, there are many different jobs for you. But like that previous poster said, if you were in Security Forces, you will be manning gates, working 12 hour shifts (not including times when you suit up/arm up) and deploy every other 6 month increment. They are hurting so bad to fill the security forces slot because nobody wants that job. It is known as one of the more crappier jobs in the AF. Admin jobs, healthcare, Services (working at the chow hall, Gym etc) are pretty much LAX and aren't as stressful. I was an Intelligence Analyst and I worked in a vault all day and I can tell you that it beats sitting in a shack all day in the heat waving cars into the gate! There are other jobs out there too, espeically if you like working iwth your hads. They have jet mechanics. You get to work with the Jets or heavies. Do as much research as you can before you make a final decision.

Security Forces is all of what you make it. It is the job in the Air Force with the most camaraderie. You will feel like part of a family. Yes you do work long hours, but its shift work 4 days on 3 off, I do reccomend doing a four year contract though, because if you decide its not your thing you can retrain at 36 months instead of 58 months. Take the SF job, do it proudly and make the best of it. You will be happy you did it.

Security Police Squadrons have been facing the highest rate of deployments in many years. Many are used for convoy escorts in the Iraqi Theater of Operations, in addition to performing security functions at Balad Air Base and other facilities. The Air Force has been forced to go with civilians guards at many stateside bases as a result of this increase in operation tempo. Setting aside Special Operations personnel in the Air Force, Security squadron personnel have become the "point of the sword" on the ground in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
