I'm 28 years old, 4'11" & around 140 lbs. I'd like to lose 20 lbs. I work out 4-5 times a week (a mixture of both cardio & medium intensity strength training) & I try to watch what goes into my body.

I've dabbled in whey protein before, but always lost interest pretty quickly so I never really stuck with it. Would consistantly using whey protein (one or two shakes a day) help with my weight loss goals? Also, are most brands pretty much the same?

whey protein is not optimum for weight loss, it is best used for pre/post workout as it is metabolized very rapidly and provides more of an anabolic effect. for fat loss blended proteins are optimum. blended proteins contain casein, milk proteins and/or egg white proteins. the matrix of amino acids provide a longer more sustained release of amino acids into the bloodstream. this has a anti-catabolic effect on skeletal muscle. basically when on a reduced calorie diet blended proteins will help to preserve more muscle mass while the stored fats are being utilized for energy.

check out some of the low carb MRP's from MyoPlex, MetRx and others.

i would go with soy protein for weight loss. depending on your work out, how much u eat at a time, how many times a day you eat, and when u eat your last meal comes into play too. i wouldnt drink them too late in the day. also on the weight scale you may not see drastic changes because your losing fat and gaining lean muscle with your excersises and shakes. you are losing body fat so your body will look better. just keep at it;)

Totally! drink in the a.m. and you'll have tons more energy all day and feel more full/satisfied thru out day! try to do sugarfree...no carbs except for maybe a small amount of fruit.

also eat lots more fiber and increase the flavor in your foods i.e. spices sours...

Protein build muscle. Muscle is heavier than fat therefore you may weigh a little more but look totally different (a slimmer look). you have to continue your work out though
