Your credit may not be as bad as you think. Try checking your Fico scores first before applying for an Imagine, First Premier (STAY FAR FAR AWAY), Tribute, Credit One or Continental card. I am sure there are some other sub prime cards that I just can’t think of right now.
Use discount code MW01 for 20% off your Fico score at MyFICO.com. Juniper Bank, HSBC & Capital one offer better credit builder cards than anyone in the banking industry (without a deposit).
http://www.Hooterscreditcard.com – isn’t so bad either although the approval is not instant
Hooters & Juniper Bank use Transunion
HSBC pulls Experian
Capital One normally pulls all 3

Applying for a credit card itself will not raise your credit score. In fact, the application itself can hurt it. Frequent inqurires into your credit report lower your score (1 or 2 don't do much usually). The card though would help your credit. Things to do if you get a credit card: 1.) Pay in full every month. Charge $40 onto it, then pay it off the next month. This will actually look VERY good on a credit report. 2.) If you can't pay it off all at once, keep it low. It looks good on a credit report if your balance on your card is half of or less than your credit limit. (Ex: you have a limit of $200, keep your balance at $100 or less) 3.) I cannot stress this one enough: ALWAYS pay on time. A lot of credit card companies don't care if "life" prevented you from paying your bill on time. They will raise your rates, lower your credit limit, or even close your account, especially if your credit's not so good. But come on, we've been learning since pre-school to be "On Time" so just make a consious effort of it, shouldn't be too hard, right? What I personally did to first establish credit: Took out a small, personal, unsecured loan with my bank. Loans are a little safer than credit cards. Credit cards you can keep building yourself into debt, loans you don't so much. They build credit the same way though!

Remember- the MAIN reason they send you a card is to rip you off- charge you outrageous interest, fees, fines, etc. The more they can make off you, the more they like you!
If your credit is that messed up, it will be hard to get a card that offers good rates.
Besides- credit cards don't fix credit quickly- they usually hurt it more easily than helping it.
A good way to get a quick start to fixing credit is to take out a small loan you can easily repay (see your credit union for this- usually the best deals!) Repay it when it is due- not too early (early payment of loans sometimes counts against you!)
Another nice thing about a credit union is that they can usually talk you through your credit score, etc. in a very fair and honest way. (Most 'credit repair services' are rip offs!)

There is no deposit free secured card however the best value for one is thru Bank of America. If you are declined for a regular card for credit reasons, they will send you an offer to get a partial secured card in which you only deposit $99 up front and get a credit line of $500

Major credit card issuers like Discover, American Express and Chase offer a credit card for bad credit holders. A 'shopping' card offers you an unsecured line of credit from specific sellers. Use these cards to increase your credit rating, since the credit bureaus will be informed about your timely payments.
Take care to ensure your credit is good by making intelligent credit choices. Keep low balances, do not be extravagant and take care to pay off your balances promptly every month.
