What exactly do you think the word atheism means? Please don't look it up in a dictionary or online.
I want to know what you think it means.

Your response frightens me, and even more so because you are only 13. I just want to let you know that atheism has nothing to do with satan or the devil. And by definition atheists are no more immoral than the general population of where they live.
Than being said, I hope you mature into a lovely woman someday, and that you seek education outside of your religious faith group. By that I do not mean, leave your religion, you are entitled to it.
I hope praying helps you, and I hope you feel blessed by your chosen christian god...

Because I have heard such misinformation coming from christians, I wanted to understand what is it they are being taught? What do they think atheists mean? Judging from some of the past answers, it was obviously very different than how the word was defined.
I know other theist faith groups are more than qualified. But their opinion was not what I was looking for. It wouldn't explain the biased opinions from christians that I was experiencing...

Atheists don't believe in science, and don't seek medical attention?

Theism is a word meaning belief. It is a belief in a higher power. The prefix "A" before the word means "without". It literally means "without belief". It is a person that is without a belief in a higher power. It is not a religion. It is a philosophy. It doesn't mean someone hates God or that someone hates religion. It is someone that hasn't got a belief in ANY god.

From what I've seen, an atheist is someone who refuses to believe in any type of a God. Some of them are more agnostic and want proof, but would consider believing if there was evidence. Others flat deny that even with proof that they can ever believe in God.
Most atheists prize intelligence and logic. They kind of remind me of "Spock" from the original Star Trek Series, although they typically have a better sense of humor.

It means that there is a belief that there is no God. A denial of a supreme being.
What Atheists attempt to do is say that it stops there.
For those Atheists who come here to preach daily, it is not true that it stops there.
What many of them do is expect others to believe what they believe. Not all, but many. It is no longer for them to carry on with their own idea and live in it, because they typically come to places like this and espouse their beliefs. So they are preaching their belief just like a religious person. They are answering questions about God religiously.
Then they attempt to link logic and science as a part of their response. That is the most unintelligent thing for them to do! Because they have no proof of what they espouse, it is NOT a scientific ideology, there was no scientific method involved at all! And then saying that it is a belief that is derived through logic, when no logic at all is necessary, only faith.
So they do not have science, they do not have logic, and to top it off; they are in denial about the whole thing. Their denial is illustrated when they call what they believe 'anti faith', or 'anti belief'. Well, if it were anti faith, then they would not even trust their own ideas.
So it is not anti faith or anti belief. It is fully enveloping themselves in their belief that 'there is no God' to manifest as a complete ideology, complete with mantras and systems counter to that of any God, especially the one in the Bible.
They have their literature, especially from Atheist sites which they paste to their replies as dedicated as the most pious Christian handing out Chick tracts, and announce themselves as being the only truth allowable to intelligent people.
So those Atheists who come here from day to day are becoming as religious as any other religion. Not making themselves different at all from those they complain about. The more they are here, the more like a religion they are becoming.

''a''= ''without''
''theos''= ''god/deity''
''atheist''= ''without a god or deity.''
an atheist doesn't believe in God. i don't claim that atheists eat babies. LOL. i was an agnostic until about a year ago. a lot of my family members are atheists, and they're nice people. i simply don't agree with them on spiritual matters anymore, although i'm not sure i ever did. it's hard for me to understand how a person could ever say with complete confidence that there is absolutely no possibility that a higher power(s) could exist, even if that higher power is nothing more than some intelligent form of energy that ''got the ball rolling'' and started the big bang.

From what I understand, an Atheist is one who does not believe in God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, any higher power, a spiritual realm or life after death? Therefore, they believe in no God, no Jesus, no Holy Spirit, no higher power, no spiritual realm and no life after death. This takes faith also.

Someone who is truly practices atheism believes in nothing. Things are just because they are. They don't believe in God(s) or science. A true atheist does not seek medical attention because medicine is a science. They think everything is a fluke.
However, I have always found irony in someone that says they are a atheist because that means that they recognize others beliefs, most seek medical attention or use medications and to say you practice atheism means that you "believe" in something.

Someone who is not a theist; someone who does not believe in God or gods.
And that's all. It says nothing about anything else.
But I'm not a 'Christian" anymore. I choose to follow Jesus example but I'm not a 'Christian'.
