In the 1940's the Axis was a recognized threat to freedom by everybody.
I our time, terrorism is not seen as a viable threat to our freedom, so lack the popular support.
But the next huge terrorist attack might change that!
It also took some time, at the beginning of the WWII, for the US population to realize the threat the Axis was.
History is repeating itself, again!

We did not invade Germany during WWII, war was declared against the US. So we took up the change, at around the same time Japan and Germany were two peas in a pot so to speak, Japan got a little antsy and jump off into Pearl Harbor did not set well with Germany but life went on(along with the war) We then declared war on Japan to which they had declared it up on us to begin with. There was a lot of ill feeling going on back then between the country. We with held a lot of goods as did they. So one just kept picking on the other(bullying)who can get the better of the other.
As for Iraq we are trying to liberty them because of all the violence that is going on. We think that we are wright in our belief and they think they are in theres. What gets me is as our religion all of it began over there and they still can not seam to get along.
What Hilter did during WWII is not much different than what the US did with the American Indians, or slaves. If one was to go back over history u can pick up on a lot of bad things the US has done it all depends on who is in control of the country. Pres Bush sits in the high chair and he gets all the cussing and finger pointing. But have you been on top and had people working for u and they do something wrong. You didn't say yea or nay but you still get the flack from it. because they simple work for YOU.

Germany attacked our merchant ships that were giving aid to England, which is an act of war. We didn't invade Germany we launched an offensive to prevent further attacks or harassments against American citizens. Not to mention Germany at the time wanted to conquer the known world and kill off entire races of people. Iraqi's had no way to overthrow a leader that kept them afraid and under his boot. But, there was a dictator who in some form or fashion was giving aid to enemies of America, enemies that launched offensives against a country they hated because we can stop killing each other over thousand year old family disputes and we had the guts to stand up to a government that was wrong. Difference is at least the Germans had courage enough to face us.

Wait a minute we didn't invade Germany they declared war on us as part of the tripartite pact with Japan.
We declared war on Japan, Germany and Italy declared war on us. Read a history book sometime.
Now Iraq is different this "war" is not a declared conflict and was as it turns out based based on a lot of bad information, some of which came directly from Iraq, which before the war had reported more chemical weapons than they actually possessed which lead to the erroneous conclusion they where stock piling illegal weapons.
All things considered I'm still glad Saddam got what he deserved.

Germany was after world conquest and when war was declared, it was all out. Limited rules of engagement and talk about innocent people being killed. When 500 B17's drop their loads on Dresden, Berlin or any other city, thousands died. The Germans put their factories in the middle of the cities.
In Iraq, we are trying to do a job with limited collateral damage. We don't want to kill innocent people, unlike the insurgents, who are cowards and are killing woman and children. Our troops are hindered by the rules of engagement because we are trying to do it and keep our integrity.
In WW2, the world was on one side or the other. You were either Axis, which Germany, Japan and Italy were involved, or allies, which was the rest of the world. Only one or two countries tried to remain neutral. Yeah right.

Germany was already in a fight with our allies when the war began. There are very few similarities, such as both leaders of Iraq and Germany were mass murderers. Also Germany used different tactics that the insurgents in Iraq use.

The Germans we attacking Poland and other neighbors at the time, and the U.S. and its allies were attempting to stop them.
The U.S. did not the start WWII, we were pulled into it at the request of the UK and other allies. There was a major faction in the U.S. between between 1939-41 that campaigned for us to stay out of the war. Charles Lindberg, the aviator, for example, was one oif the leaders of these campaigns.
From 1939-41 we helped out allies by sending them tanks and ships, rather than becoming involved by sending troops because people in the U.S. were against our sons and daughters going to war. We were not a war-mongering nation then as we are now.
Even the first Gulf War in 1991 against Iraq could have been considered a "just war" because our allies wanted us to defend Kuwait, whom Iraq had attacked. Many countries and the U.N. supported our efforts then.
The current war in Iraq is totally different. Iraq was doing noting wrong, had no weapons of mass destruction as was alleged. We had no permission from the U.N. the second time, and we practically had to drag our allies into the fray. They thought it was an unjust and unwarranted war, and have only participated in token ways.
The current war in Iraq is an unjust war. We were never asked to help the people there. We are trying to force Democracy on a country that has been ruled by kings and dictators for many thousands of years, and who prefer that form of government.
Just as Germany made unprovoked attacks on Poland and other countries to spread Fascism, we made an unprovoked attack on Iraq to spread Democracy.
It has been said that we attacked Iraq as a consequence to 9/11. The reality is, if it were tit-for-tat, we would have attacked Saudi Arabia since a majority of the hijackers were from that country. However, because of the corrupt thinking in our own U.S. government, we intentionally choose a country we knew we could beat, and in fact did beat, in the the first Gulf War.
That decision has backfired on us. We now have poor relations with our former allies. Ordinary people around the world who used to love America now hate us. Nearly 3,000 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq and over 27,000 have been crippled so far, all of this due to America's irrational "cowboy" diplomacy.

Other than Conranger, the rest of these post suck or are way off. From a basic military question? No difference. We landed, defeated the military help from a new government after hanging the old bunch.
Germany Declared war on the US in 1941. We passed a resolution of force against Iraqi(semantics folks, same thing). Both were rotten apple nations that needed force to change. All the limp wristed happy horse bleep about we should leave or never did anything is a load of turd.....

The difference is that it took being surprise attacked in Pearl Harbor for us to enter WWII at all, let alone sending troops to Germany, while for the Iraq war, we entered into a war based on incorrect, if not falsified, pretenses.
