My friend, Maryanna, is turning 49 years old and the last I've heard from were was that she didn't want any children!! Now she is getting married to a 33 year old Egyptian guy out in Egypt(legilization process for the U.S.) and he wants like 3 kids. If she decides to have his babies what are the risks and if she doesn't want them what do you think will happen to her relationship with this guy.

Probably not the ideal age but it still happens. It really depends where she is with menopause and such. If she is going to have a baby it will be considered high risk and there are a lot more chances of complications. I would suggest they talk with a Dr. and get busy right away!

It's doable, as long as she has not undergone menopause.

Conception is going to be a problem. The chances of conceiving dramatically decrease after the age of 40.

The chances of birth defects also rises with the age of the mother.

But having children does not necessarily mean getting pregnant. Literally thousands of children need parents in this country and adoption is a viable alternative for this couple. Surrogate parenting is also an option.

As to what happens in the relationship if she does not have, or does not want to have, children is between her and her fiance.

At 49 her chances of conceiving are more slim, but her chances of having multiples (twins, triplets, etc) are much higher. I think they need to look at it closely and consider their options. I personally believe that once they are old enough to go through menopause that they shouldn't be having kids, but at 49 it's still an ok age. Anything past 55 is just plain crazy though. There's a reason mother nature intended women to stop bearing children past a certain age!

If she has never had children before the risks to her and the child are incredibly high. Even if she has had children before she is still at very high risk.

If the marriage is only for the sake of getting this guy his citizenship why in the world does she have to give him any children? She's the one doing him a favor already.

Sounds to me like she is old enough to do what she wants. It might be hard for her to get pregnant due to her age, she has more of a chance for a down syndrome child or a child with problems, miscarriage is a higher risk for her because of her age. Personally I would let her worry about all of this she is a grown up, let her make her own decisions.

It's harder to get pregnant if you're older, but once you are finally pregnant, the risks to the mother are about the same. A higher risk of down's syndrome to the baby, though.

Weird for this to be in this category but in my opinion that is a lil to old to be having kids. When the first one is born the is done with diapers he'll be changing hers. There relation is doomed. He is younger and ready for a family she is oler and frankly should be looking forward to traveling and seeing the world.

Well obviously it's her business, but she's risking having kids w/ mental disabilities. Since she'll be 50 or older when she has them it'll also be harder on her body carrying around her unborn child and giving birth.

49 is ok as long as she can get pregnant. As long as a woman is over 21 I think it's good. Teenagers shouldnt't have babies, but anyone older is fine.
