The seat belt chime in my 2006 Jeep Commander is so annoying. I don't need a reminder to put my seat belt on. I appreciate that some folks do need it. Is there a programming option to disable it? It might not be so bad if the it would chime less frequently or at a lower volume.

It's a 2006... not a 2007

Fly G - that worked! Thanks so much. I actually called the Jeep dealer here in Denver and they said it was impossible to turn it off.

oklatom - thanks for nothing. I simply was asking how to turn off the seat belt reminder... not the light reminder or the key in ignition reminder. Like horn79, I simply wanted to drive about 100 feet without having to put on the seat belt. You can go back to insulting posters and being a jerk on these boards now.

It should explain how to disable it in your owner's manual. I do this all the time with my cars or I'd go insane.

I will Google "disable seat belt reminder" with car type if I don't have a manual. I was looking for instructions for my Libery when I stumbled upon your question-- way atop the Google list.

In case you don't have the owner's manual, try this-- instructions from an 05 Grand Cherokee. 95% chance they're identical.

The following steps must occur within the first 60 seconds of the ignition switch being turned to the ON or START position. The manufacturer does not recommend deactivating the Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert)

1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, and fasten the driver's seat belt.

2. Start the engine, and wait for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.

3. Within 60 seconds of starting teh vehicle, unbuckle and re-buckle the driver's seat belt at least three times, ending with the seat belt buckled, within 10 seconds.

4. Turn off the engine. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.

The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be recactivated by repeating this procedure.

On my 07 Ram 3500, in the owners manual there was a 'code' to deactivate it. I do not remember exactly but it was along the lines of turn the ignition on (don't start) click the seat belt in and out 3 times. Turn ignition off then back on, buckle and unbuckle seatbelt Two more times and the horn should beep twice. It was a bit complicated but worked.(after a few attempts) My 04 Ford F-350 had the same basic thing.

first of all oklatom, if you leave your lights on they will shut off on there own after a while and I agree the chime is the most annoying thing, I always put on my seatbelt but if I want to pull my jeep out of the drive way to let another car out I usually don't put my seatbelt on, I am only going 50 yards and don't need to wear a seatbelt for that. I would like to know how to fix this problem also.

Yes, and then after you delete it you will accidentally leave the lights on and run the battery dead, or leave the keys in the ignition and lock the doors. Leave it alone, and just put on your seat belt to stop it.

Added: what year is it really, 06 or 07? Just curious.
