Very privately. Discreetly call them into your office (say there's an important phone call for them, etc) and then ask them if they might be going through a personal problem or are depressed. Then tell them why. Depression, insomnia & other personal problems are usually the cause. If it's not that it could be alcohol abuse (also related to depression) or drug abuse.

We own a bussiness and had the same problem, any way you address its going to be akward so the best way is to have a group discussion. Invite all of your employees in a conference room and basically say that as a emmployee of the company there are certain things that need to be done in order to make the company look good such as wash inform everyday and having clean hair ect. . Then at the end maybe give out gift bags with a travel size container of deorant and a small shampoo and other hyginic products.

If you're simply a co-worker and not the supervisor of this employee then you should have a private conversation with that co-worker's supervisor about the hygiene. They should handle the situation.

If you're that person's direct supervisor......
Then I would ask to speak with them in private. Once in private I would be direct, but be aware of the sensitive nature of that topic. Tell them that it is something that you have noticed. It is a great help if you have a policy in a company handbook about hygiene/dresscode to reference. Tell them the hygiene issue is something that can reflect poorly on the company. If it is something new, tell them that if anything is going on (they could have a sick loved one taking their time and energy) that they need to talk about, or need asistance with...you're there to do whatever you can.

just sit him or her down and say that you have been receiving some complaints about their hygiene. and tell them in the most polite way possible that they need to fix the problem is they wish to remain an employee. my brother had the same problem when he was the manager at Gadzooks, except he was really rude about it, and he simply said to the guy, "You have dandruff and B.O its time to cut our losses, youre fired! " be nice about it!

If you're that person's supervisor, call him/her into your office and say you've had some complaints about that person's hygeine. Be polite and discreet. Some emotional problems do manifest themselves in poor attention to hygeine.

If you are not that person's supervisor, talk to the supervisor and ask them to mention it to the employee.

You do not sit them down if you are not their supervisor, this is not your place. Anonymously send a nice note to them and do not dicuss this with anyone else. IF things do not change, call them into your office stating someone made some anonymous comments to you. Do not have them embarrassed .
