My dog has a bloody patch on her back. Its about the size of your palm. It looks really gross her hair is gone in that spot and it really red looking. We have a vet apt in two days to get it looked at but I am really scared I was wondering if anyone might know what is could be. Thanks

Two days? But I'm glad you're taking her. Ok was this a case of one minute she didn't have it and the next she did? Or has she been licking and biting at it so it gradually became an open sore? Either way I'd clean it and put some triple antibiotic ointment on it and see if you can't get her to the vet sooner....

Clean the area with betadine, put some topical antibiotic cream on it and wrap it loosely with a sterile bandage. You can also give her some antihistamine (benedryl or generic) to make her more comfortable and less itchy til you can get her to the vet. (Call your vet and ask for dosage - depends on weight.) Use a good flea control product. Give her a bath using a medicated shampoo. Get a collar for her so she doesn't chew or scratch the area (she may not be able to reach this area but might develop other spots where she can chew).

It could be a hot spot, the vet will give you an ointment. It could also be a laceration, but i am pretty sure it is only a hot spot. the vet can give you more information.

it could be a hot spot, because she has flea allergies, or just plain skin allergy or issue?

maybe she got bit by an insect?

it could be any number of things, hon. i'm glad you're going to the vet soon..

i wish you all the best!
