That's what I've been wondering. We use 'militant' to describe religious people who get in your face, break the law, assault people, and attempt to kill people in the name of their faith. And they use it to describe atheists who ... write books and give interviews. Kinda not really the same thing.

Good question.

Yeah, we 'militant atheists' are people who argue and write things, whereas religious types usually have to kill a few innocent people before they get to be militants. It's another example of trying to frame the conversation in such a way as to demonize atheists.

I'm sure some militant atheists exist.

But the conspicuous absence of dogma and many vocal atheists' willingness to change positions has new evidence/arguments come to light indicates to me that militant atheism is not very common.

To me the term "militant" implies the use of force to accomplish something. I don't believe it has any place in Christianity.

I've yet to hear of militant atheists blowing up abortion clinics or flying airplanes into buildings.

I hate that term "militant atheist." It implies using force, and that's something I don't agree with.

Just another word used in propaganda. Example: Islamist.

Islam = peace + ist = peacist. No sense at all.
