Your little 8-week-old kittens are the equivalent of a human baby of a few months in many ways. They are babies, infants, and their survival skills are not well-honed yet. Cats are prey to larger animals, and they cover their excreta because, protein being the major component of their diet, it is very stinky and attracts predators. Your little guys have the right impulse, but their skills are still developing, and they aren't very well-coordinated or strong yet, so even if they knew for sure what they were doing, they couldn't do it very well. They will improve. In the meantime, if you see somebody begin to walk away after failing to cover something significant, just gently grab them and hold them in front of the production, and cover it for them. So they can see the goal of the effort.
They will improve over time.

Have you called the vet?
It sounds like Mom may not have trained them to cover their stuff or they were like kids and did not learn. I don't know if there is a way to train them.
Soap and water is ok for washing. I wouldn't use a wipe.
Rinse the soap off well.
Can you get one of those automatic litter cleaning boxes as they might be the best solution?

Honestly, get used to it because some cat's never learn or are just lazy. They don't always cover they're stuff. They learn how not to step in it tho, so that's a plus right?

It's a gradual process, be patient. If it continues, try taking a stick or something else and cover it for them to see. They usually learn it themselves but a lot of them benefit from seeing the mother (or in this case, you) do it. But my kitten learned that on his own.

My sisters kitten grew up with our dog, and she learned from her. She never covers her poop, and I don't think she ever will. Good luck in trying.

One time, me and my brother rescued a litter of kittens and they didn't cover up at first either, but they did eventually. I think its just because of their age.

They probably just haven't perfected their routine yet. It should get better on it's own.

when they are little and aren't used to what they are supposed to do because it's new to them. once they get older they'll learn what to do.
