If the smell is as bad as you descibe, he's certainly got an infection, and a bad one at that! Please don't attempt to clean them out with ear buds as you should never put anything smaller than your elbow in your dogs ears! And yours for that matter ha ha. Its common for dogs and cats to get grass seeds in their ears and if not dislodged naturally by them shaking their heads to remove it, it will fester and become infected and result in that smell! As the smell is very offensive he's better having antibiotics from your vet than anything from the pet shop. Sometimes you can remove foreign bodies from dogs and cats ears by warming some olive oil in a tube ( test on your wrist so that it is not too hot ) and pouring gently into the ear canal. Leave it for ten minutes then tilt the head to that side and mop up the gunk that comes out. Dont us dog lovers go to some lengths ha ha. After he's had the course of anti's from the vet, start traing him to allow you to touch his ears! All my dogs let me clean their ears with a damp, warm, cotton wool pad. Start by wiping the outside of the ear, then drying it, give him a treat and praise him. Do it again half an hour later. Keep doing it throughout the day and the next day. Once he realises you're not going to hurt him he'll trust you to lift his ear flap and wipe the inside. Always praise him afterwards and give him a treat, bull mastiff's are easily won over with treats ha ha. Good luck.

GET the dog to a VET. Do not you know how painful ear infections are? They may be able to additionally cause extra problems... Hematoma from scratching or shaking the head, burst eardrum, and many others. In order to be a long way more luxurious than a trip to the vet now. You have got to stop hanging cleaner in the ears until you recognize what it is. It would be bacterial or yeast, and the cleaner just spreads it around within the ear. Get the canine to the vet. If the vet says it is YEAST, be certain he doesn't provide you with liquid to heal it. Ask him for a cream... If he will not offer you one say thanks, and then leave... You should use Monistat that ladies use for yeast infections... It most likely works higher anyway! Bacterial most commonly responds higher to drops, however you must comply with them precisely. You would additionally ask for an extra bottle. These quite often don't seem to be too costly. That way if your dog shakes or something and also you leave out your target you are not concerned about jogging out. There is also a powder that has suffering/itch meds in it together with the bacterial meds... This is also just right. Neo-Predef or anything like that. Just right success.

He has an ear infection. They may look clean but if they smell the infection is down further in the canal then you can see. You can use a mixture of 3/4 rubbing alcohol and 1/4 vinegar on a cotton ball to clean them. Squeeze some of it down inside and try to wipe the rest out. Use a cotton ball and get as far down as you can. A dogs ear canal is not like a persons. You will not hit the drum with a cotton ball ad the canal makes a turn. Floppy eared dogs have these problems all the time. Make sure you clean them until the infection is gone, and then do it once a week to keep up with it.

There is an infection that dogs can get called Canker, not sure if that is how you spell it, But this gives off a disgusting smell. Take him to the vet as he will need treatment before this gets any worse. You need to be careful when cleaning their ears with cotton wool as this can loose little threads that then build up in the ear canal.....

What kind of stink is it? If they smell yeasty it is likely that he has an ear infection. A trip to the vets will help and they can administer the drops if you can't manage. My black Lab gets ear infections all the time, and the drops clear them up really quickly. No amount of cleaning will get id of the smell of the infection, you need an antibiotic drop to clear the root of the problem.

Probably has a build up of wax and it is becoming infected. You need to get him to a vet for some medication. Also, if you are able to use a cotton ball, you can try using "witch hazel" or "peroxide" on the cotton ball to clean the ears. The witch hazel will probably be better because if there is an infection, the peroxide will tend to bubble up inside the ear (like it does when you pour it on a cut) and probably drive him nuts - then he won't even let you near him with the cotton ball.

My six month old boxer's ears did the same thing a couple months ago (her ears aren't clipped so they are floppy like your dogs). There was no extra wax but they kinda smelled like vinegar and cheese (I know....gross!). The vet said it was a mild yeast infection of her ear and she gave me some oily drops to put in her ears and it literally cleared up in 2 days.
I'd take your dog to the vet and ask if this is a possibility. And if he really won't let you get near him to put anything in his ears, have someone come over and help you by holding his head really firmly while you put the drops in.
Hope it gets better soon!

He probably has an ear infection and/or mites. He needs to get to a vet asap and have these cleared up as his long term hearing could be affected plus animals who have ear mites for a long period of time can continue to have over waxy ears through life, this happened to my rescue cat and I now have to regularly clean his ears because of something that could have so easily been prevented in the first place.

The only solution I can think of is to hold him down and put ear wash into his ears, because there could be an infection. My dog has had this problem a few times, and the only thing you can do is take him to the vet and get some ear wash, or if you have some ear drops, just put a few drops in each ear and rub his ear to make sure it gets in.

Could be ear canker, which causes a foul smell from the ears, due to scabs deep in side the ear. Caused by a mite. See your vet, he will be able to give you medication to put in the dogs ear and tell you how to do it safely. Don't just put anything into the dogs ear without first making sure you know what is causing it.
