i am trying to find a plant that i had a few weeks ago. From what i understand, it is a plant that is not indigenous to the US, but is similar in movement to that of the venous fly trap, in that when it is touched, the leaves will retract in a matter of seconds. it is more of a bush with stems coming from the main tree and on each offshoot/stem of the tree there are a row of leaves on one side of the stem and a row of leaves on the other side. if you stroke down the middle of the stem, the leaves on both sides will retract into each other. please help and let me know the name of it! thank you!

It sounds like a mimosa pudica, or sleeping grass.

Its Mimosa Pudica.
The Sensitive plant (Mimosa pudica L.) is a creeping annual or perennial herb often grown for its curiosity value: the compound leaves fold inward and droop when touched, re-opening within minutes. Mimosa pudica is native to Brazil, but is now a pantropical weed.
