To those who don't understand why it's a religion, consider the fact that global warming has all the major components of any religion.
1. Sin - global warming enthusiasts claim that we are sinning by driving around gas guzzlers that get 10 miles to the gallon, plus all the other ways that we are supposedly contributing to man made global warming.
2. Redemption - Global warming enthusiasts claim that we can redeem ourselves by driving hybrids, using solar power, and reducing ourselves to two sheets of toilet paper per visit to the restroom.
3. Revelation - They claim that if we don't change our ways that we will be living in an inferno and man kind will be doomed.
4. Profits - People like Al Gore who claim to know what will happen in the future.
5. most importantly..... FAITH - The global warming enthusiasts are riding on nothing but faith that these lifestyle changes will bring the earth back to its natural and pristine state, much like the Garden of Eden

Judging by most of your answers, you act like I'm spitting on the cross. All of your man made global warming "evidence" is flimsy at best.

Alot. The clergy(UN funded scientists) are all knowing. To question a politically funded scientific study is blasphemy that deserves a label (denier).
We sinners should repent(taxes and bans) while the annointed ones(carbon credit racketeers) save us all.
If you question any of it you are "uneducated".
Defunded heretics will no longer do research.

Global warming/climate change is not a religion or politics and it's really stupid that we treat it that way. The climate is changing, we can see that. Anthropogenic global warming is one theory that relates to climate change. You can believe in this theory or not, that is your choice. You can live however you want as well. Sure, it would be nice if people would stop polluting but we can't call for martial law to save the environment. We have been screwing over the environment for decades, why is anthropogenic global warming suddenly the theory that grabs everyone by the tail?
I am also sick and tired of this never ending argument. One side is as blind as the other and the same old things keep getting repeated again and again. I have seen countless questions asking if 1934 was the hottest year...we get the picture already.

I concede that there are aspects similar to religion in those who are concerned about global warming. There is a certain faith in the authoritative sources from within science and our society. There is also a certain ideology of frugality and concern for one's neighbour which is very common in religion. On the other hand there are those who are religious who dismiss concern about global warming on the basis that God will take care of everything or that we can't possibly effect God's creation.

If you will concede that greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide are a very large contributor to Global Warming and that Global Warming is real, I will concede that some of the people involved in the effort to stop global Warming are rather goofy.
Just because there are some goofy people who have chosen to help the effort to stop Global Warming does not mean that Global Warming is a myth.
The science itself is well established.
Where it gets goofy is in the popular media.
The purpose of the popular media is to entertain and get the largest number of readers and viewers possible to support the rather high advertising rates charged by the popular media.
the purpose of the popular media is not to provide accurate reliable information.
Unfortunately accurate information is left in the dust.
Some rather goofy people who have not read the scientific literature and probably would not understand it if they had read it get involved and repeat the misinformation that is contained in the popular media.
This is where you get the appearance of a religious cult.
That does not change the fact that there is very solid science behind Global Warming and that it is a subject that should be taken seriously.

I have to disagree. If you take this approach, then anything can be considered a religion. The thing about Global Warming is that it is a real problem, and we must address it, finding ways to fix it if possible. I dont think it is a 'sin' to drive around a tub of a car that takes up excess gas, but I think it is rediculous. I mean come on. We send our young men to die in Iraq so that we can continue using these cars- is this just? What you state in your question...these things are kind of true. If we dont change our ways, it is possible that we will have a planet similar to Venus in the future. Prehaps the further future, but it is a possibility. This is an indirect quote from the Matrix, but it is true: humans are the only organisms other than viruses that completely take over. All other living things have a sense of boundary, a sense of how much food, water, space, etc to take. However, humans have a tendancy to have the wish to take over, without much thought to the rest of the world. We cant take our world for granted. It is best to be prepared for a hurricane than a light shower, because if it is in fact a hurricane, then umbrellas wont do much at all {(metaphor)}.

The Church of Global Warming has more members than The Church of Skepticism.
Yours isn't even big enough to qualify as a religion. It's only a cult.

Global warming has been proven. This is not "flimsy", it's solid, accepted science. Frome the Source below:
http://www.globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Image:Climate_Change_Attribution.png
Data like this is why 99+% of scientists think that global warming is real, and mostly caused by us. Proof of that:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686
Scientists don't think we can bring back the Garden of Eden. They think we can (barely) save ourselves from disaster, by reducing (we can't stop it totally, it's gone too far) global warming. Here's the plan:

Who's Al Gore? What University is he at? I only listen to qualified scientists.

I think you've got this wrong. I don't hear anybody saying that if we change our lifestyles this will "bring the earth back to its natural and pristine state". What people are saying is that lifestyle change may slow down the effects of global warming and thereby reduce the danger of climate change.

oh please.
Step 1: Go find a dictionary.
Step 2: Look up the word religion
Step 3: Look up the word science
The THEORY of global warming does have a scientific basis. It's based on climate models and some common sense.
Stop and think a little about who is telling you that it's not real. Think about how much oil companies stand to loose if people believe global warming.
