I hired a contractor to reconstruct my house. After he finished he threw all of the construction sand onto my front yard grass, covering all the junk he had left there such as glass, wood, etc. After I asked him why he would do such a thing, he said its no big deal, just add top soil to it and it will be fine. Isn't a contractor obligated to fix anything that he has damaged, and wasn't paid to fix it. Is there someone I can call so I can show them it proves as a health hazard?

Have you paid his bill yet? I would think he would want you to have complete satisfaction so you would recommend him to others. I guess you could contact the Better Business Bureau or maybe your local Chamber of Commerce and report him.

Hopefully you haven't completely paid him, but either way, call the better business bureau as well as a lawyer who will write him a letter of complaint. You can also call City Hall to let them know what's going on and they will send over the building inspector to survey the property. They will tell you that it's your responsibility, but can also write a citation for the contractor. Hopefully that will be enough to scare him into coming over to clean up his mess before you are fined by the city, though if not, you can sue the contractor for cleanup, damages, the fees and legal costs.

Good Luck!

Clean up should be in the contract. Hopefully, you haven't paid him yet.

I HATE contractors who bury their waste. I bought a beautiful 26 year old house. While enjoying a walk with my dog through my field (adjoining my house) I fell through a sink hole down to my hip and was pretty badly bruised. The whole was about 4 feet deep and 10 feet square. Apparently, construction trash had been dumped there and buried. Over time, it had deteriorated. By the time I fell, there was basically only sod covering the hole. I also had to get a tetanus shot from a wound to my side. Not good.

Check the contract you had signed and see who is responsible for removal of the waste and garbage from the construction. If he is mentioned as responsible for doing it, then call the company and demand it be removed. If he still balks or stalls, then report him to the BBB and the county authorities and possibly start a small claims action at your local court.

Check with the Labor Board and the Better Business Bureau. Either one or the other can tell you the laws and/or who to contact to get the problems fixed to your satisfaction.

If you've paid him already you probably will have to clean it up yourself. If you want to fight it, see if he violated codes. What does your contract say, what did you agree to? If it is not stated anywhere he will clean up you may be out of luck. Some things are just not worth the trouble, especially if the work he did on your house was good.

Nah, not necessary to call amyone.

Your neighbors and/or the city will soon call YOU.

If the contractor has been paid, you will never see him again. I hope you have no problems with the repairs.

Good luck

Do not pay anymore money to him. Contact Better Business Bureau. Do not give him any good references.

Hold up the last payment until the job is completed to your satisfaction.
