I'm thinking about buying a V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee, because I'm getting a really good deal, but all I'm hearing is how they're gas guzzlers. How many miles per gallon does the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited get? Like I said, it's got a big V8 engine in it.

If anyone owns one of these trucks and knows what type of mileage it gets (city or highway... or BOTH) it would really be very helpful. I really want a Jeep because I heard they are very reliable.

Thanks in advance!

I have no idea why some of these people hate Jeeps, some I know just because they hate America.

I have an 02 Limited and get 18.7 on the highway, I think thats dam good.

The 01 limited has a full time 4x4 system thats dam good, I have the same on my 02, and its save me from getting pulled into a wall on the high way from a blid puddle, see the system sends power the wheels that grip.

Its really a dam good set up, it's very safe on wet roads, snow roads, mud roads.

You Jeep should have 2 people memory seats, radio, side mirrors, heated seats for those cold days.

It has a switch for auto darkning your rear view mirror and driver side mirror.

The engines will kick out and go under the jeep other then go into the lap of the driver during a front on crash.

The V8 jeeps cac tow cars trucks boats, I think the towing limmit was around 7,000lbs.

The 4.7 engine is a very small V8 engine figure that even the I6 jeeps have a 4.0 all you doing is adding .7

I have 2 jeeps and have had 3 at one time, sure some times you have problems but its a car everyone has them, not just the big 3 like that dork wrote.

It got great crash rateing and its a nice thing to drive around.

If you get a great deal with it and you dont like it turn around and sell it.

I think tho once you feel the soft leather and 6 speeker radio and the safe feeling of full time 4wd you will forget that you pay an extra few bucks at the pump.

No its not a car, but for even 2 people I feel safe driving on the highway and streets, we can plan trips even when the weather is or could be or turn bad becuase this thing drives in it all.

It's a dam good mid sized SUV.

I even plan on getting an old Jeep J pickup.

Good Luck

I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee; however it is a 6 cylinder. I get about 19-21 in the city and 24-26 on the highway. I would imagine a V8 would get a little less than what I experience.

I love my Grand Cherokee. It has been fun to drive and very reliable. If you are getting a good deal, I would say, "Go for it!"

The v8 will use more gas in a week than the Straight6, so be ready for that. maintenance will coast a little more but if you keep everything checked and oil changed reg, about the same as a Straight 6 , repairers will be a lot higher because you now drive a v8. Over all depend on what you prefer to drive but Straight 6 in long run is the better buy. Hopes this helps good luck

Jeeps are GREAT, and they are very reliable (although Grand's are auto and the trans will usually go between 75k and 100k), but they do suck down the gas. My 6cyl was getting 20-24 miles per gallon (hwy) unloaded with a tail wind. Gas mileage on a v8 would be under 20 mpg for sure.

EDIT for It's KK -- I don't know how you drive but I put over 200k on my cherokee with NO problems, 4 weeled the hell out of my Wrangler with NO problems and BTW Libertys suck (duh). I do have to back you up and say that Toyotas are the sh!t too.

Yeah...Jeeps aren't reliable..wonder why I have two at over 220,000 miles. Yes, one tranny went out at 150,000 miles but the other with a stroker is still going at 250,000 miles. Like anything no maintenance, no life. I do change the tranny fluid, and axle oil and transfer oil.
There were problems with the Quadra Trac viscus clutch system early on, but it was redesigned by your year.
As far as expensive parts. That is a lie! Period.
"I know just because they hate America." Agreed!! Wonder how long we can survive as a consumer economy?
