I am an Atheist and I can tell you that you don't go to church to meet people, you go because you want to connect with God through prayer and religious belief. if you want to make friends there are plenty of other places you can go, try the local golf clubs, gym, library, bar, societies, or the cafe. I talk to people all the time in my local caff and have made friends with many. I see you say you don't have much money, you don't need money to make friends, anyway most people don't have many real friends but more acquaintances. if you are a thoughful human being, just put yourself out there and you will make friends. good luck !!!!!!!!!!!

don't fall in with the cult, don't let them drag you in!
all the other answers are setting you up to become a worshiper of lies, you want to meet people, not become a sheep, stay away until you know more about it to come to your own conclusions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a person who is obviously 'seeking', I would suggest you visit The Holy Trinity Church at Brompton who actually run an Alpha Course.....they originated the course which has helped thousands of people to find the Lord for themselves. I will put a link on here for you to click on to find out about the course. Take care and best wishes...and hope you find what you are looking for...Mike

Church is free. You do not have to make a certain amount of money or apply somewhere in order to go to a church. A church should be welcoming and warm and friendly. If you would like to speak to a pastor before you go, then you should search around your area and speak to the pastor (or viccar). You can talk to him or her and ask him questions about going to the church there. It doesn't cost you anything.

To be a Christian, you don't fill out an application. You pray to God. You admit that you need a savior. Being a Christian is about having a relationship with Christ. God is perfect. We are sinful. That sin seperates us from a relationship with God. The payment for sins is death. Jesus died on a cross to pay for man's sins. Jesus was then buried in a tomb and on the third day he rose again. He was victorious over sin and death. Jesus is alive in heaven. Only in the cross of Jesus does man have a bridge to heaven and eternal life. We are to love God and others, pray to God, study the Bible, meet with other Christians, and tell others about Jesus Christ.

Jesus said, "I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John14:6

Come to God through Christ by saying these words and truly meaning them.

Dear God,

Thank you for loving me. I confess that I have sinned against you. I believe that your Son, Jesus, died on ta cross to pay for my sin and that you raised Him from the dead. I trust Jesus alone to forgive me and take away all my sins. I confess that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. Thank you for Your gift of eternal life! I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

There are two ELCE Lutheran churches in London... Holy Trinity in Tottenham (Victoria Line, Tottenham Hale stop) service at 11, and Luther-Tyndale in Kentish Town (Leighton Crescent) service at 10. Both are wonderful churches, and would be very warm and welcoming to a wandering soul. Jeans and a nice shirt are perfectly acceptable, and put in the offering plate what you feel. Please feel free to join them on Sunday morning!

Edit: If you don't have anything to put in the plate, don't feel bad. It's ok! If you have a spare 2 pence and want to put that in the plate... that's ok too! You don't HAVE TO put any money in the offering if you don't want to. God understands!

Go along to your nearest evangelical church - you do not need posh clothes or money. Just go, meet new people, see what you think. It may be the best thing you ever do!!!

I suggest visiting several christian based churches until you find a welcoming group of people to worship with.

The clothes you wear is not important, and you
do not need money to go to church.
Just go, walk on in,you will be made welcome.
If a church is not to your liking, find one that is.
And people are not brainwashed, not in christian churches, but be wary of cults.

Hebrews 10:25-26 "Let us not forsake our gathering together...as is the habit of some of you.....but we should do it even more so as we see the Day (of the Lord) approaching"

Go into any Christian church on a Sunday morning where the truth of the gospel is spoken.......that's how you go to church

There's only one requirement - you must be a sinner. Sinners are welcomed. But people who think very highly of themselves and that God ought to be pleased with them, that they've deigned to give him a few minutes' worship and they're such jolly decent people, would best stay away till they've learned some humility. You sound just fine to me. Get yourself along on Sunday morning. We'll be praying for you.
