Wasn't it practised back then? Does it come under the broad heading of fornication? Is it something to be fought against or is it something impossible not to commit if you are not in a marriage?

or is it not in the bible because it is of no importance? And does it make a difference about who appears in your fantasy as to whether it is wrong or not?

The story of Onan is about coitus interruptus, not masturbation. It's just like Christians to distort a text to say what they want it to say when they're lacking in any Scriptural basis for what they want to assert.

Not that I'm a bible fan, but why should it? As I recall the Onan story it was not so much about masturbation but that he didn't do what he was expected to do and have sex with whoever.

I believe that the writers just thought of it as natural and didn't mention it. Fornication and adultery obviously caused problems in small, close knit communities and thus were detrimental to society.

The Bible is not a masturbation guide or tool. If you cannot get the drift of it, well, you missed it then.
