It's an activity that helps you to enjoy TODAY, instead of a plea for help and a distraction-segue into the afterlife.

I think prayer is a form of meditation, it is an attempt to center ones self, the only difference is the concept of higher self. For those of faith this would be God, others it would be inner higher self.

If you are seeking a spiritual state, then asking for something in prayer is just another mental distraction. If prayer involves one-pointed focus, then it is spiritual practice.

Meditation is also a way of calming the mind, as is prayer. The target of both is mental peace, freedom from thoughts. When one-pointed concentration of prayer, or repetititve recitiation of prayer helps you quiet your mind, it becomes a meditation or "cultivation technique." Then the question which is better is moot.

To understand the differences, I suggest you read the Christian prayer/meditation articles are Meditationexpert.com

They go together. They are two sides of the same coin. What you call meditation, I call listening. Prayer should be a dialogue, not a one-way conversation. When I take time to talk to my Heavenly Father, I take time to ponder, reflect and listen to the still small voice. When I am on the right track, I receive confirmation. When I am going in the wrong way, I get a stupor of thought.

More often than not prayer is meditation. It is having that relationship with God and reflecting on it. Think of a friend who constantly comes to you for help and asking for things, but never wants to spend time with you. Not quite the friend you had in mind, huh? Well, God may feel the same way with us. I don't dismiss the idea of prayer, only to use it wisely and that when you do pray believe in what you're asking.

Depends on the person and their religious beliefs.
Meditation is very peaceful, and that is a powerful way to reach to God. No distractions.
Some people don't reserve prayer for pleas though some of us take time to be thankful too.

you get carry of it! it incredibly is an identical. each and all of the international's religions are tied jointly in one shape or type. I particularly have been studing this for somewhat it sluggish. An ex-nun, Karen Armstrong, wrote a e book "A historical past of God, the 4,000 365 days quest of Judiasm, Christianity and Islam" and that i think of you could rejoice with examining this. She does an staggering interest beginning from the 1st techniques of gods and godesses and tying them in to what the main considerable religions now have self belief in.

NO, meditation is not more important. What do you think God likes better, you just thinking to yourself, or talking to Him.

You have the wrong idea of prayer, we don't ONLY ask for things, but we praise Him in prayer too.

I agree, meditation helps me bring balance and harmony into my day and is rarely done out of desperation, unless I am really stressed and need to relax.

I like to meditate.

Here is what I say while meditating to help me relax.

"Oh what a loon I am" Repeat for as long as you are meditating.
