I mean Technology is making almost unimaginable progresses and developments , its like almost anything and everything can be archived , if not today then tomorrow if not tomorow then eventually - future holds so much for humans.

Humans are even learning to explore outer space - soon they will have the technology and capabilities to explore and colonize our Universe.

Even time travel to the future can be made possible.

And so much more can be elaborated , its simply cant be said in words and today our imagination limits our foreseen future as far as 50 to 100 years, but our earth will exist for billions of years. So much can be achieved by humans then. among all the progresses and evolution in technology , the most significant developments would be from medical technology.

All I want to know is, can ever humans at any point of their time existing in this universe can actually defy death and prolong live at least for 500 years for an average human to live.

Maybe more then 5

Earl D - two thousand years ago people / religious scholars even thought the world was flat , and the sun was going around the earth and so - anything else other then what know then is considered impossible , evil or not achievable - but look at our humans achivements today

Jane - so many thing said to have said by the god is said to be proven wrong. Galileo said the sun is not revolving around the earth but earth is orbiting the son - for that the pope sentence him to house arrest and Galelio died in house arrest. Today we know the earth is the one that is orbiting the sun !!

we don't know - no one knows but it definitely is not wrong to consider such a feat is possible in the distant future. Anyway we learn to preserve sperm in liquid nitrogen for a very very long time - god must have not thought human can do that - well humans are also doing clone

Puppy - go back about a few hundred years and say that one day humans can fly , they can even fly at three times the speed of sound , if they did not shoot you then tell them one day humans will explore space and build space stations there and they will - you sound like them in the yesteryears to the future of you tommorow !!

I sincerely hope not -- most of you people are intolerable just living for 70-80 years....

Lets hope not. I am only 50 and already the AARP is recruiting me to fight against my own looming irrelevancy. I am not sure what I would do with another 450 years.

Be that as it may, we may one day defy death. But I suspect that should our technology ever advance so far that our very existence as we know and understand it today may be irrelevant. One way to look at this is we have a concept of heaven but no true understanding. And so it will be for the distant future. Perhaps not heavenly, but just as unfathomable.

While I am a proponent of life extension having followed the work of Pearson and Shaw (much to the chagrin of many of my scientific cohorts) I still believe the average biological maximum age to be in the 120 year range.

Until we can prevent the degradation of DNA code errors as a function of cell reproduction I fear that this limit will impose itself on us longer than we may wish it to.

Perhaps nanites with the ability to repair strands -- or more importantly the ability to stop the denature of enzymes responsible for the proper aligment of pairs within the genome will ultimately provide that elusive elevation of the longevity ceiling.

I personally view the possibility for 500 years to be quite remote and would be delighted to be proven incorrect !

No. Not without genetic engineering.

It is believed death is largley pre-destined by the Genomes.

The Genomes start shutting the body systems down just like a computer program starts closing the handles and clearing them prior to program termination.

No it can't. Cells stop dividing when they hit their hayflick limit and the body cannot continue to repair itself. The limit is there to ensure that cells die before they accumilate enough gene damage to trigger malignant cell growth (cancer).

There are substances that can cause the cells to prolong their life by increasing the limit but then the individual is more likely to die from cancer.

No, God said that our years will be numbered to 120. No one will live to be older than that.

God gave us no more than 120 years.......that's all I need.
Maybe 70 if I'm blessed enough
